Ice Wolves and Warriors turn the tables on Sunday
New Mexico 6 vs. Amarillo 1 – Ice Wolves goaltender Owen Parker made 36 saves to lead New Mexico to a 6-1 win over the Bulls, in the final game of a three-game weekend series. The Ice Wolves scored the game’s first goal late in the 1st period as Keegan Langefels scored his 4th goal of the season. The Ice Wolves put the game away in the 2nd period with five more goals, including two from Will Howard, two from Nikolai Dulak and one from Brandon Holt. The Bulls would finally get on the board midway through the 3rd period as Jere Vaisanen recorded his 13th goal of the season to end Parker’s shutout bid. Andrew Takacs was saddled with the loss, stopping 11 of 15 shots before being lifted for Cullen DeYoung, who made 10 saves on 12 shots.
Wichita Falls 2 @ Shreveport 1 – The Warriors came away with three points in their three-game weekend set in Shreveport thanks to a 2-1 win on Sunday. Warriors goalie Owen Bartoszkiewicz, who gave up a season-high seven goals in Friday’s 7-3 loss to Shreveport, was as solid as rock on Sunday, allowing just one goal on 26 shots. The Warriors led 1-0 early in the 1st period thanks to a power play goal from Drew Vieten. The lead increased to 2-0 as Carter Korpi, who assisted on Vieten’s goal in the 1st period, lit the lamp early in the 3rd period for his 13th tally of the season. Bartoszkiewicz lost his shutout bid with just 1:35 remaining in regulation as David Breazeale scored the lone goal for the Mudbugs. Shreveport netminder Arseni Sergerev was solid in the loss, making 42 saves.
