Friday Finals: Mudbugs snap Warriors streak

Aberdeen forward Thomas Manty had a hat-trick and an assist in a 6-1 win as the Wings won their 30th game of the season.

Wichita Falls 3 @ Shreveport 7 - The Shreveport Mudbugs brought the Wichita Falls winning streak to a screeching halt as the Mudbugs took down the Warriors 7-3. Giovanni Procopio logged a hat trick to lead the Mudbugs while Joe Mack had a goal and two assists and Connor Gatto added a goal and assist of his own. Lukas Sedlacek and Griffen Sanom also visited the red light district for the Mudbugs. Arseni Sergeyev made 21 stops to pick up the win while Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 22 saves in the loss.

Austin 1 @ Aberdeen 6 - Thomas Manty registered a hat trick and added an assist as the Aberdeen Wings extended their points streak to 16 games as they dominated the Austin Bruins 6-1. Payton Matsui grabbed a goal and two helpers while Spencer Schneider and Liam Fraser each found the back of the net as well. Jake Sibell was spectacular once again as he improved to 25-0-1 on the year as he made 32 saves. Garrett Dahm scored the lone goal for Austin while Hudson Hodges and Tyler Shea combined for 27 saves.

Johnstown 4 @ Danbury 1 - The Johnston Tomahawks scored three times in the opening period as they went on to take down the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks by a score of 4-1. William Persson got things started just 1:15 into the game with his fourth of the year. A power play goal off the stick of Alex Gritz extended the Johnstown lead to two. Will Margel would score just a few minutes later to put the Tomahawks up by three. Porter Schachle would get Danbury on the board with his 11th of the season but Dusty Geregach’s first goal of the 2020-21 campaign would put the Tomahawks lead back to three. Josh Graziano made 21 saves to earn the win in goal while Edward Nordlund took the loss in net, making 28 stops.

New Jersey 5 @ Maryland 2 - The New Jersey Titans got a goal and an assist from Zach Nazzarett as they defeated the Maryland Black Bears 5-2. Matthew Iasenza, Anthony Calafiore, Jack Karlsson and Blake Humphrey all lit the lamp the lamp for New Jersey. Conor Cole scored both of Maryland goals in the loss, their ninth straight defeat. Christian Stoever continued his strong play, making 41 saves. Michael Morelli received the loss in goal despite making 40 saves.

Minot 3 @ St. Cloud 4 (OT) - Ben Helgeson was the overtime hero as the St. Cloud Norsemen outlasted the Minot Minotauros 4-3. Brett Chorske was once again a problem as he netted a goal and added two assists. Nate Warner and Blake Mesenburg also found the back of the net for St. Cloud in the victory. Jay Buchholz potted a pair of goals for the Minotauros while Cade Stibbe chipped in a goal and an assist. Josh Langford stopped 30 shots to pick up his second win of the year. Keenan Rancier turned aside 33 shots for Minot.

Amarillo 3 @ New Mexico 1 -  The Amarillo Bulls won their third straight contest as the knocked off the New Mexico Ice Wolves 3-1. Ethan Green found the back of the net for the first time this season early on in the second period. Paul Schmid added some insurance in the closing seconds of the middle frame. Ryan Coughlin added a power play tally early in the third to increase the Amarillo lead again. Jeff Hutchinson’s first goal of the year spoiled the shutout bid for Andrew Takacs. The Amarillo netminder stopped 30 shots en route to picking up his 10th win of the year. Owen Parker was dealt the tough loss as he made 36 saves for New Mexico.

Fairbanks 4 @ Chippewa 2 - Laker Aldridge scored twice to lead the Fairbanks Ice Dogs as they doubled up the Chippewa Steel 4-2. Brendan Miles led all skaters with three helpers, Bret Link chipped in a goal and an assist while Jasper Lester also got on to the scoresheet. Jack Brown netted both goals for the Steel in the loss. Ryan Keyes improved to 4-5-1 for the Ice Dogs as he made 33 stops. Berk Berkeliev stopped 39 shot in a losing effort.

Janesville 3 @ MN Magicians 2 (OT) - Charlie Schoen sniped the top corner as the Janesville Jets won an overtime thriller against the Minnesota Magicians 3-2. Cade Destefani and Jaxson Ezman scored in regulation for Janesville. Luc Laylin and Hunter Longhi each grabbed a goal and an assist while Karl Falk had two assists. Riley Sims won his third straight game and is now 6-2-1 on the season. Darius Bell took the loss in the blue paint as he made 29 saves.

MN Wilderness 1 @ Bismarck 5 - The Bismarck Bobcats struck early and often as they routed the Minnesota Wilderness 5-1. George Grannis lit the lamp just 59 seconds into the game to give the Bobcats the early lead. Austin Schwartz gave Bismarck insurance at the 8:50 mark of the first before Grant Ahcan netted his eighth tally of the year. Braden Costello and Tim Piechowski added goals in the final 40 minutes to widen the Bobcats advantage. Donte Lawson had the only goal for the Wilderness, a power play tally in the third period. Ian Shane won his third game of the season as he made 28 saves for Bismarck. Kaleb Johnson and Jacob Zacharewicz teamed up to make 26 saves for Minnesota.

Odessa 2 @ Lone Star 4 - The Lone Star Brahmas kept pace near the top of the South Division as they doubled up the Odessa Jackalopes 4-2. Alex Murray and Dawson Tritt scored to tie the game for the Brahmas. Nicholas Niemo netted a power play goal with just under two minutes left to play to put Lone Star ahead for the first time all night. Matt MacDonald beat the buzzer to add an empty net goal for his third of the year. Guy Blessing need just 16 saves to earn the victory in between the pipes while Cooper Black stopped 23 shots in a losing effort.
