Saturday Scores: Jets extend winning streak with sweep
Janesville 3 @ Fairbanks 2 (SO) - Charlie Schoen scored the only goal in the skills competition as the Janesville Jets grabbed a 3-2 shootout win over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Schoen had the game’s opening goal as his 11th of the year found the back of the net. Cade Destefani would make the score 2-0 with his 11th of the season as well. Nathan Butler grabbed his first goal of the season to bring Fairbanks within one. Then Butler would set up Tyler Stewart who tied the game at two. Owen Millward stopped 33 shots and denied all three shooters in the shootout to seal the win for Janesville. Ryan Keyes stopped 29 shots in the loss for the Ice Dogs.
MN Wilderness 6 @ Austin 3 - Gavin Rasmussen scored twice and added an assist as the Minnesota Wilderness doubled up the Austin Bruins 6-3. Mitchell Allard registered a goal and two helpers while Jacob Badal and Ethan Wolthers had a goal and an assist. Evan Bushy also chipped in a goal for Minnesota. Reggie Millette had a goal and an assist to lead the Bruins while Connor Mylymok and John Lundy also got on the scoresheet. Jacob Zacharewicz won his third game of the year as he made 42 saves. Tyler Shea took the loss for Austin as he made 22 saves.
Amarillo 4 @ Wichita Falls 5 (SO) - Dominick Rivelli scored in the eighth round of the shootout to give the Wichita Falls Warriors their eighth win in a row as they took down the Amarillo Bulls 5-4. Drew Vieten and Nick Lanigan scored in the first period to get the Warriors out to a 2-0 lead. We would be tied at the first intermission as Greg Japchen and Cooper Fensterstock lit the lamp for the Bulls. Jackson Salt would put Wichita Falls back in front midway through the second but goals from Harrison Scott and Jere Vaisanen put Amarillo in front for the first time. The only goal of the third period would go to Adisen Brueck which forced overtime. Riley Brueck and Vaisanen would trade goals in the skills competition before Rivelli’s game winner. Ryan Ullan got the win in goal as he made 26 saves and stopped seven of eight in the shootout. Andrew Takacs was given the tough loss as he made 32 stops and six of eight in the shootout.
Minot 0 @ Aberdeen 5 - The Aberdeen Wings kept rolling as the shutout the Minot Minotauros 5-0 on Saturday night. Payton Matsui and Thomas Manty each had a goal and two assists for Aberdeen while Cullen Ferguson had a goal and an assist of his own. Will Arquiett logged his fourth goal of the weekend and Clayton Cosentino also got in on the scoring for Aberdeen. Dominik Wasik earned the shutout in between the pipes as he stopped all 28 shots he faced. Carter Clafton stopped 40 shots in a losing effort for Minot.
Johnstown 5 @ Maryland 3 - TJ Koufis had a goal and two assists to lead the Johnstown Tomahawks to a 5-3 win over the Maryland Black Bears. Reed Stark tallied a goal and an assist in the win while Anthony Mastromonica, William Persson and Brendan Clark all lit the lamp for the Tomahawks. Conor Cole, Branden Piku and Brad McNeil were the goal scorers for the Black Bears. Josh Graziano picked up the win in between the pipes for the Tomahawks while Hannes Kollen took the loss in net for Maryland.
Danbury 2 @ Maine 3 - Aidan Connolly scored the eventual game winning goal late in the third period as the Maine Nordiques outlasted the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks 3-2. Reese Farrell and Patrick Schmiedlin also scored for Maine in the contest. Mark D’Agostino and Andrew Eberling found the back of the net for Danbury. Avery Sturtz stopped 28 of the 30 shots fired in his direction while Josh Seeley was dealt the loss despite making 36 saves.
Bismarck 5 @ St. Cloud 2 - Braden Costello and Ryan Taylor each potted a pair of goals as the Bismarck Bobcats bounced back to take down the St. Cloud Norsemen 5-2. Luke Gramer also got on the scoresheet for Bismarck. Tommy Aitken got the win in goal as he made 31 saves for the Bobcats. Blake Perbix and Cooper Gay logged goals for St. Cloud while Paxton Geisel was the loser in goal, he made 26 saves.
New Mexico 2 @ Lone Star 1 - Two shorthanded goals were all the New Mexico Ice Wolves needed as they edged the Lone Star Brahmas 2-1. Nicholas Niemo gave Lone Star the lead in the final minute of the first period. Cole Hanson returned the favor with a last minute goal in the second period while the Ice Wolves were down a man. Joey Larson scored just 71 seconds into the third period and that would stand as the eventual game winner, it was his fifth of the year. Beni Halasz needed just 18 saves to earn his fourth win of the season, Guy Blessing fell to 3-2 despite making 22 stops.
MN Magicians 2 @ Kenai River 5 - Peter Morgan registered a goal and two assists as the Kenai River Brown Bears snapped their long losing streak, defeating the Minnesota Magicians 5-2. Theo Thrun and Morgan Winters picked up a goal and an assist each in the win. Max Helgeson and Brandon Lajoie also found the back of the net for Kenai River. Luc Laylin and Luke Kron lit the lamp for the Magicians in the loss. Luke Pavicich saw his record improve to 10-6-1 as he made 30 saves while Andy Beran was dealt the loss as he made 25 stops.
Northeast 4 @ New Jersey 3 - A couple of late goals propelled the Northeast Generals to a 4-3 victory of the New Jersey Titans. Paul Minnehan got the Generals on the board first with his third of the season. The lead would only last 50 seconds before New Jersey’s Jake Suede netted his sixth of the year on the power play to tie the game at one. Jonathan Young would put Northeast back up by one by netting his eighth of the season. Blake Humphrey would tie the game for the Titans and Levente Keresztes would give them their first lead of the night with his fourth tally of the year. Midway through the third period Dylan Schuett knotted the game at three with his seventh goal of the year. Then with just over five minutes remaining Jake Hosszu’s unassisted tally would be the game winner for the Generals as they earn a series split. Hugo Haas was sensational as he turned aside 36 shots. Louden Hogg took the loss as he stopped 26 shots.
