New Jersey and Chippewa win on Thursday

The Chippewa Steel snapped a six-game losing streak thanks to a 4-2 home win on Thursday over Fairbanks.

Danbury 3 @ New Jersey 5 - Nick Seitz scored two goals to help lead the New Jersey Titans to a 5-3 win over the visiting Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks this afternoon at the Middletown Sports Complex. Stephen Willey got the Titans on the board first at just 1:55 into the opening period. Just a minute later Danbury tied it at 1-1 thanks to a goal from Shane Murphy. The Titans regained the lead at 2:53 into the second as Jack Karlsson took a clapper from the top of the near side faceoff circle. Danbury tied the score at two at 4:26 into the middle stanza as Levi Stauber scored on a redirection. The Titans then went up 4-2 with back-to-back goals from Seitz. Before the period was over, Murphy scored his second goal of the game to cut the Titans lead in half with 2:40 left in the period. Jack Ford scored an empty net goal with two minutes remaining in the game to close out the scoring and make it a 5-3 game. Christian Stoever stopped 35 of 38 shots in his first game as a Titan, while Andrew Pichora turned aside 24 of 28.

Fairbanks 2 @ Chippewa 4 – Four different players scored and newly acquired goalie Berk Berkeliev made 23 saves in his Steel debut to lead Chippewa to a 4-2 win at home over the visiting Ice Dogs. Fairbanks was on the board first early in the 1st period as Evan Junker scored. The Steel then responded with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead as Brockton Baker answered with a 1st period goal and Jack Brown and Braden Lindstrom scored in the 2nd period. Fairbanks cut the lead down to 3-2 with a late power play goal in the 2nd period from Brendan Miles. In the 3rd period, a late empty-net goal from Ryan Waltman secured the 4-2 win. Ice Dogs goalie Ryan Keyes made 20 saves in the loss.
