New Mexico forward Hanson makes NCAA DI commitment
The New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Cole Hanson has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Colgate University in the ECAC.
Hanson, 20, was acquired from Minot Minotauros by the Ice Wolves during the 2019-20 season and has played 35 games since joining the team.
The 5’11/175 lbs. native of Grand Forks, ND, is currently tied for team leader in assists (15) and is second in goals (9) and points (24) during the 2020-21 season.
Hanson is excited to make the move to New York to attend and play for Colgate University starting next hockey season. “I couldn’t have done this without my parents, teammates, coaches and the New Mexico Ice Wolves organization as a whole,” Hanson said. “Coach Phil Fox has helped develop my game and gave me the confidence to take my game to the next level this season. I can’t wait to finish out the rest of the season and make a playoff push.”
Overall in 67 career NAHL games between New Mexico and Minot, Hanson has recorded 37 points.
Ice Wolves Head Coach Phil Fox always looks forward to helping his players reach the next level of their playing career. “I am extremely excited for Cole on his commitment to Colgate University. He put in the work and took a big step this year. He’s been a leader on and off the ice for us. Colgate is getting not only a great student but a very talented hockey player as well,” said Fox. “It’s great seeing players get rewarded when sticking to what they want and following the process on the path to success.”
Prior to playing junior hockey in the NAHL, Hanson played high school hockey in North Dakota for Grand Forks Central.
