Saturday Scores: Jets back in 1st place after weekend sweep

Fairbanks goalie Kayden Hargraves stopped 64 of 70 shots this past week in three wins for the Ice Dogs, including 24 saves in a 2-1 win on Saturday.

Chippewa 2 @ Janesville 5 - The Janesville Jets took this round of the battle of Wisconsin as they defeated the Chippewa Steel 5-2. Thomas Middleton logged a goal and two assists to lead the Janesville offense while Justin Thompson tallied three assists. Blake Dangos and Charlie Schoen each picked up a goal and an assist. Will Troutwine also found the back of the net for Janesville. Ethan Benz and Brockton Baker lit the lamp for the Steel. Eli Bowers picked up the win in goal as he made 31 saves. Gus Blyin and Grant Boldt teamed up to make 24 saves in the loss.

Fairbanks 2 @ Austin 1 - The Fairbanks Ice Dogs won their third straight contest as they held off the Austin Bruins by a final score of 2-1. The game was scoreless all the way until the 3:42 mark of the third period, that’s when Bret Link’s sixth goal of the season gave Fairbanks a 1-0 lead. With just under five minutes remaining, Tyler Herzberg netted his fourth of the year to give the Ice Dogs some insurance. They would need it as Connor Mylymok scored his first goal of the year to bring Austin within one. Kayden Hargraves would take care of all the Bruins chances down the stretch, finishing with 24 saves, en route to winning his seventh game of the year. Zach Hansen took the loss in goal as he made 25 stops. 

Minot 4 @ Kenai River 2 - The Minot Minotauros doubled up the Kenai River Brown Bears for the second straight night, winning 4-2. Gabe Temple logged a goal and an assist in the win while Cade Stibbe, Kaiden Scott and Damon Zimmer all found the back of the net for Minot. Brandon Lajoie and Morgan Winters were the goal scorers for Kenai River. Keenan Rancier improved to 11-9-2 on the year while Luke Pavicich fell to 9-4 after making 36 saves.

St. Cloud 5 @ MN Magicians 2 - The St. Cloud Norsemen got their second win of the week as they took down the Minnesota Magicians 5-2. Jackson Sato and Blake Mesenburg each chipped in a goal and an assist in the victory. Jack Reimann, Nikolas Hong and Brendan Kim all lit the lamp for St. Cloud. Robert Christy and Will Svenddal notched the goals for Minnesota. Paxton Geisel earned the win in net as he made 31 saves while Marino Ramirez and Darius Bell combined to make 27 saves.

Shreveport 2 @ Amarillo 3 (SO) - For the second straight night, the Bulls and Mudbugs needed a shootout to decide the outcome, this time it was the Bulls coming out on top as Cooper Fensterstock scored the game deciding goal in the seventh round of the shootout. Greg Japchen scored both of Amarillo’s goals in regulation, giving him seven goals on the year. Joe Mack and Braiden Dorfman were the goal scorers for Shreveport. Andrew Takacs made 47 saves to improve to 6-0 this year. Cullen DeYoung was stuck with the loss despite turning aside 45 shots.

New Mexico 4 @ Odessa 3 (SO) - Jack Bayless netted the only goal in the shootout as the New Mexico Ice Wolves scored a 4-3 win over the Odessa Jackalopes. Alex Gomez, Spencer Rudrud and Joey Larson tickled the twine for the Ice Wolves. Beni Halasz stopped 27 saves in 65 minutes and denied all three shooters in the skills competition. Jack Musa led Odessa with a goal and an assist while Jimmy Rayhill and Kyle VanCompernolle also scored. Cooper Black took the loss in goal as he made 27 saves.

MN Wilderness 1 @ Aberdeen 3 - The Aberdeen Wings bounced back to earn a series split as they defeated the Minnesota Wilderness 3-1. Nathan Mann got the scoring started with his fourth goal of the season. Christian Galatz would tie the game later in the period and the teams heading to the third period knotted at one. Michael Reed broke the tie just five minutes into the final frame with his sixth of the year. Clayton Cosentino added insurance with his seventh tally of the season. Jake Sibell improved to 20-0-1 on the year as he stopped 20 shots. Kaleb Johnson stopped 37 shots in a losing effort.
