Kenai River forward Schachle makes NCAA DI commitment
The Kenai River Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Porter Schachle has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Vermont in Hockey East.
Schachle, 20, is in his third and final season of playing junior hockey in the NAHL with the Brown Bears. The 6’4/205 lbs. native of Wasilla, Alaska, is off to a good start during the current 2020-21 season with 12 points (8 goals, 4 assists) in 12 games played, which ranks him tied for 2nd on the team in scoring.
Schachle had been committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Alaska-Anchorage, which he announced back on September 11, 2019, but decommitted and decided on Vermont instead.
“First off, I would like to thank the Alaska Sea Wolves for originally taking a chance on me. That being said I’m proud to announce my commitment to play hockey at the University of Vermont. Thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates who helped along the way,” said Schachle on Instagram.
In three seasons in the NAHL with the Brown Bears, Schachle has appeared in 81 career games to date and recorded 59 points (26 goals, 33 assists).
“We are extremely excited for Porter to earn this opportunity. He has worked very hard since entering the league three seasons ago. Porter has a lot of potential as a player and we look forward to following him on his journey,” said Brown Bears head coach Kevin Murdock.
