NAHL Weekend Preview

January 8, 2021

As the NAHL continues to navigate the 2020-21 based on the ever-changing state guidelines and Covid-19 restrictions, this weekend sees the return of the East and Midwest Divisions, along with the continuation of games in the South Division.

It has been another big week of NCAA Division I commitments for the league as three more players made NCAA Division I commitments, bringing the current season total to 194 players who are committed to playing NCAA Division I hockey in 2020-21.

While the Central Division takes a break from the action this weekend, the East Division returns to the ice with two series. The New Jersey Titans return to action after over a month off against the Maryland Black Bears, who haven’t played a game since December 11th. Both teams are in the playoff mix entering this weekend, so points will be at a premium. The Maine Nordiques have their eyes on 1st place in the Division as they face the Northeast Generals for a three-game set, who are on a two-game slide entering the weekend.

In the Midwest, things got started early this weekend with the Minnesota Magicians defeating the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, 3-1 on Thursday. The two clubs complete their series on Friday. The other series has the Kenai River Brown Bears looking to snap their small two-game slide with a series in Janesville against the Jets, who have lost four in a row.

In the South Division, the Shreveport Mudbugs host their annual Stick it to Cancer weekend as the face the Wichita Falls Warriors. At 11-2-2, the Mudbugs currently have the second-best record in the NAHL. The battle of the beef goes down in Amarillo as the Bulls host the Brahmas for a pair of games. Odessa and New Mexico will face off on Sunday, with their series extending into Monday next week.
