Saturday Scores: Wings sweep again as Langer sets new NAHL record

Fairbanks forward Bret Link had six points as the Ice Dogs posted a three-game sweep of Janesville this weekend.

Bismarck 1 @ Aberdeen 3 - Scott Langer became the winningest coach in North American Hockey League as the Aberdeen Wings defeated the Bismarck Bobcats 3-1. The win gave Langer his 603rd win in the NAHL, passing Tony Curtale for the most wins in league history. Payton Matsui led the Wings with a pair of goals while Cade Neilson chipped in the insurance goal in the third period. Jake Sibell went to 14-0 on the season as he made 32 saves to earn the victory. Austin Schwartz scored the lone goal for Bismarck while Cameron Korpi took the loss, making 27 saves for the Bobcats.

Fairbanks 5 @ Janesville 4 (OT) - Scott McKenzie’s first goal of the season proved to be the game winner as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs completed a three game sweep of the Janesville Jets, winning on Saturday night, 5-4 in overtime. Laker Aldridge’s fourth goal of the year tied the game with just 31 seconds left in regulation while Jasper Lester set it up with his third assist of the night. Nick Ostbloom, Billy Renfrew and Brendan Murphy all lit the lamp for Fairbanks in the win. Ryan Keyes won his first game of the year as he made 34 saves. Cade Destefani led the Janesville offense with a goal and an assist. Jake Dunlap, Carter Hottmann and Matthew Romer all scored for the Jets. Owen Millward was dealt the loss in goal as he made 33 saves.

Lone Star 7 @ Wichita Falls 1 - The Lone Star offense exploded as seven different goal scorers found the back of the net as the Brahmas blew out the Wichita Falls Warriors 7-1. Mitchell Digby, Jack Collins and Dylan Smith each had a goal and an assist for Lone Star. Blake Benson, Nicholas Niemo, Joey Baez and David Andreychuk all found the back of the net for the Brahmas. Graham Burke was nearly perfect in goal as he made 35 stops, allowing just a single goal. Alex Walker had the only goal for Wichita Falls and Ryan Ullan took the loss in goal as he made 23 saves.

Kenai River 2 @ Chippewa 5 - Grant Boldt made 22 saves and Kylar Fenton tallied three assists to lead the Chippewa Steel to a 5-2 win over the Kenai River Brown Bears. Ethan Benz registered a goal and an assist for the Steel while Conor Ronayne, Connor McGrath and Ian Famulak all got on the scoresheet as well. Porter Schachle and Morgan Winters scored for the Brown Bears in the loss while Luke Pavicich stopped 25 of 30 Chippewa shots.

Shreveport 4 @ Odessa 3 - The Shreveport Mudbugs took the rubber match between them and Odessa on Saturday night as the Mudbugs skated away with a 4-3 victory. Connor Gatto, Dawson Sciarrino, Matt Weber and Logan Gotinski all found the back of the net for the Mudbugs. Joey Musa, Nick Siffringer and Dayne Hoyord tickled the twine for Odessa in the loss. Cullen DeYoung improved to 3-0 on the season while Cooper Black fell in his season debut despite making 41 saves.

New Mexico 1 @ Amarillo 3 - The Amarillo Bulls picked up their first win of 2021 as they dropped the New Mexico Ice Wolves 3-1 on Saturday night. Jere Vaisanen potted a pair of goals for Amarillo while Nick Martino chipped in a goal and an assist. Cal Sandquist earned the victory in between the pipes as he turned aside 28 of 29 New Mexico shots. Brandon Holt had the only goal for the Ice Wolves while Josh Graziano made 35 stops in his season debut.
