Friday Finals: Wings stay perfect with convincing win

John Gelatt had a hat-trick on Saturday and four goals in the weekend series to help Johnstown split in Maine.

Aberdeen 7 @ Bismarck 0 - The Aberdeen Wings stayed perfect on the season as they dominated the Bismarck Bobcats 7-0. Thomas Manty scored two goals for the Wings while Natan Vertes had a goal and two assists. Payton Matsui, Jordan Randall and Liam Fraser all had a goal and an assist. Spencer Schneider also chipped in a goal for the undefeated Wings. Clayton Cosentino finished the night with three assists. Jake Sibell made 23 saves for his third shutout of the year. Noah Altman and Tommy Aitken combined for 26 saves.

Johnstown 4 @ Maine 1 - It was the John Gelatt show on Friday afternoon as the Johnstown Tomahawks earned a series split with the Maine Nordiques, winning the game 4-1. Gelatt found the back of the net three times to give become the first player with 10 goals in the NAHL this season. Brendan Clark chipped in the other Tomahawks tally and assisted on all three of Gelatt’s goals as well. Jay Ahearn picked up a pair of assists in the victory. Sam Evola stopped 28 of 29 shots to improve to 5-1-2 on the season. Cannon Green was credited with the Maine Nordiques only goal of the game while Avery Sturtz denied 31 shots in a losing effort.

New Jersey 6 @ Maryland 1 - The New Jersey Titans crushedthe Maryland Black Bears 6-1 on Friday night as Evan Werner led the offensive attack with two goals and an assist. Jack Ring also potted a pair of goals in the win for the Titans. Zach Nazzarett and Jake LaRusso also found the back of the net for New Jersey. Berk Berkeliev earned his first junior win as he made 30 saves. Josh Waters scored the only goal for Maryland while Michael Morelli and Karsten Bourgoine teamed up to make 39 saves.

Lone Star 6 @ New Mexico 4 - Nicholas Niemo had two goals and an assist to lead the Lone Star Brahmas to a 6-4 victory over the New Mexico Ice Wolves. Andrew DeCarlo, Joey Baez and Luke Johnson all had a goal and an assist for Lone Star while Logan Tobias also lit the lamp for the Brahmas. Rico Dimatteo made 13 saves to earn the victory in goal. Griffen Sanom was the catalyst for the Ice Wolves offense as he scored a goal and chipped in two assists. Sean Henry, Spencer Rudrud and Michael McCosh all tallied goals for New Mexico. Henrik Laursen took the loss in goal as he made 31 saves.

Austin 2 @ Minot 3 (OT) - Cade Stibbe’s second goal of the game was the game-winner in overtime as the Minot Minotauros held off the Austin Bruins 3-2. Damon Zimmer scored the game’s first goal late in the first, with Stibbe’s first of the night coming late in the second period. Carson Riddle scored a pair of shorthanded goals just over a minute apart to tie the game for Austin and force the extra period before Stibbe’s game winner. Keenan Rancier improved to 6-3-2 as he made 33 saves. Tyler Shea was dealt the loss in goal despite making 37 saves.
