Friday Finals: Maryland moves into 1st place tie with 2-1 win

Joey Baez scored the overtime-winner on Friday night to help Lone Star widen their lead in the South Division.

Johnstown 1 @ Maryland 2 - The Maryland Black Bears handed the Tomahawks their first regulation loss of the season as the edged Johnstown 2-1. Jay Ahearn got on the board first for the Tomahawks with his fourth of the season. Reid Leibold tied the game up just about five minutes later with his fifth tally of the year. Hunter McCoy scored the eventual game winner just about midway through the third period. Michael Morelli got the win in goal as he made 26 saves while Sam Evola took the loss, stopping 22 shots.

Shreveport 1 @ Lone Star 2 (OT) - Joey Baez scored in the first minute of overtime as the Lone Star Brahmas defeated the Shreveport Mudbugs 2-1. Ryan Drkulec scored as well for Lone Star while Nicholas Niemo had two assists. Garrett Steele scored the Mudbugs only goal with help from Giovanni Procopio and Chris Hedden. Graham Burke improved to 8-2 this season by making 38 saves. Cole Hudson lost for the first time this year as he made 24 stops.

Austin 1 @ Aberdeen 3 - The Aberdeen Wings improved to 11-0 on the season as they knocked off the Austin Bruins 3-1. Payton Matsui scored twice for the Wings to give him six goals the year. Devon Carlstrom netted his first tally of the season as well. Cullen Rush scored the lone goal for Austin in the loss. Jake Sibell improved to 8-0 by making 16 saves while Tyler Shea took the loss in net despite making 35 saves.

Bismarck 5 @ Minot 1 - The Bismarck Bobcats scored their second win in three days over the Minot Minotauros as they took home a 5-1 victory. Austin Schwartz led the offensive attack with two goals and an assist. Quinn Rudrud also found the back of the net and chipped in two helpers. George Grannis had a goal and an assist while Braden Costello also lit the lamp. Noah Altman picked up the win in between the pipes as he made 16 saves. Cole Stofflet scored the only goal for Minot while Keenan Rancier made 35 saves in the loss.

Amarillo 3 @ Odessa 2 - Ty Black scored twice as the Amarillo Bulls defeated the Odessa Jackalopes 3-2. Paul Schmid’s second goal of the year proved to be the game winner with help from Jordan Venegoni and Max Scott. Dayne Hoyord and Kyle VanCompernolle found the back of the net for Odessa and each had an assist as well. Cal Sandquist picked up his third win of the year while Connor Hasley made 25 stops.
