The Kansas City Scouts are a member of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), the only USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier II junior hockey league. This premiere league gives players aged 16-20 the opportunity to develop on the ice and be scouted by the NCAA and National Hockey League. Each season, the NAHL sends over 300 of its players to NCAA programs. In the past two months alone, four more Kansas City Scouts players have committed to NCAA schools.

“As a franchise member of the NAHL, we are so pleased to bring this level of hockey to Kansas City and continue elevating the sport of hockey in this community,” said Lamar Hunt Jr., the owner of Team operator Loretto NAHL, LLC and an NAHL Governor.  “This team solidifies our vision of a hockey eco-system from youth to junior to minor professional hockey,” continued Hunt.

“We are excited to bring NAHL hockey to Kansas City. These players are elite athletes who have high aspirations of playing for NCAA Division 1 schools and ultimately the NHL. Our players will be heavily involved in the community as well. They will be taking part in reading initiatives at local schools as well as helping grow the game of hockey,” said the Scouts’ Head Coach and General Manager, Simon Watson. “We look forward to providing an environment for each player to reach their potential while being model members of the Kansas City hockey community,” added Watson.

In addition to reading initiatives, Scouts players and staff will be heavily involved in attending camps, clinics, and practices of the Kansas City Youth Hockey Association (KCYHA). The KCYHA is made up of over 1200 players, many of which play out of KCIC with the Kansas City Stars Youth program.

“For die-hard fans and for the future growth of the sport, hockey has never had it so good in Kansas City,” added Mr. Hunt.  “We especially want to thank the Kansas City Ice Center for their willingness to take us in their venue for our games and practices, and we look forward to making many new friends as we watch and enjoy our Kansas City Scouts in this upcoming season.”

The Scouts’ season will begin in late August with Main Camp at KCIC. To keep up with the Scouts, follow them on Twitter and Instagram (@KCScouts_Hockey) and like them on Facebook (/KCScoutsHockey).
