June 5, 2020
The Shreveport Mudbugs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Conor Witherspoon has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
Witherspoon, 20, just completed his second and final season with the Mudbugs. The 5’11/170 lbs. native of Metamora, Michigan, had his best career season in 2019-20, as he finished 2nd in team scoring with 35 points (5 goals, 30 assists) in 52 games played.
“Conor is a skilled and elusive player that quietly gets many jobs done. He’s a great skater that has developed a nice defensive side of his game to compliment his offensive ability. We expect that Conor can also contribute in many different situations as he has a high hockey IQ. We wish him good luck playing NCAA Division 1 hockey at Alabama-Huntsville this upcoming season,” said Mudbugs head coach Jason Campbell.
Witherspoon also played the 2018-19 season with the Mudbugs, recording 21 points in 45 games played.
Witherspoon made his NAHL debut during the 2017-18 season with the Amarillo Bulls, recording two points in six games played. Overall in his NAHL career, Witherspoon played in 103 career NAHL games and recorded 58 points.
