Friday Finals: Blizzard make statement against Wings

Giovanni Carabelli helped the Springfield Jr. Blues stay in the playoff hunt in the Midwest Division with a come-from-behind 6-3 win in Topeka on Friday.

Aberdeen 1 @ St. Cloud 5 - The St. Cloud Blizzard unleashed a flurry of goals in the third period as they defeated the Aberdeen Wings 5-1. Luke Aquaro and Owen Belisle tallied a goal and an assist while Bud Winter, Ryan Green and Alec Johnson also found the back of the net in the win. Tyler Bost stopped 27 shots to earn his fourth win of the year. Cade Neilson notched the only goal for Aberdeen while Jake Si-bell made 14 saves.

Springfield 6 @ Topeka 3 - Billy Sims led the Springfield offense with a goal and two assists as the Jr. Blues doubled up the Topeka Pilots 6-3. Hunter Longhi contributed three helpers while Giovanni Carabelli had a goal and an assist. Jack Rhode, Danila Larionovs, Cameron Wuesthoff and Leo Bacallo all notched goals for Springfield. Ryan Wilson stopped 34 shots en route to picking up his ninth win of the year. Aus-tin McCarthy had three assists to lead the Pilots. Quinn Green, Matt Clark and Connor Zilisch found the back of the net for Topeka. Guy Blessing made 25 saves in the loss.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4 @ Northeast 5 (OT) - Liam McCanney scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Northeast Generals outlasted the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 5-4. Gerard Marretta tacked on a goal and an assist for Northeast while Dylan Schuett, Thaddeus Marcola and Jonathan Young all found the back of the net as well. Joey Stanizzi picked up the win in goal as he made 23 saves. Lincoln Hatten and Tyrone Bronte each had a goal and two assists for the Knights in the loss. Artur Turansky and Nikita Asylaev also notched goals for Wilkes-Barre. Alex Contey stopped 43 saves in a  losing effort.

Maryland 3 @ Jamestown 5 - Liam Hansson and Eric Olson each tallied a goal and an assist as the Jamestown Rebels topped the Maryland Black Bears 5-3. Carter Korpi, Zach Brydges and Janis Vizbelis also found the scoresheet for the Rebels. Noah West denied 31 shots to pick up the win in goal. Hapmus Rydqvist, Reid Leibold and Ethan Heidepriem scored for the Black Bears. Andrew Takacs took the loss in the crease for Maryland. 

Johnstown 3 @ New Jersey 5 - The New Jersey Titans increased their division lead as they defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks 5-3. Matt Cameron led all skaters with three assists. Shane Haviland got the scoring started with his fourth of the season. Cade Penney increased the lead to 2-0 with his fourth of the year. Johnstown got within one as Christian Gorscak netted a goal. Nick DeSantis answered just under a minute later to give the Titans a 3-1 lead after two periods. After a Tristan Poissant goal made it 3-2. Gavin Gulash and Tyler Nasca found the back of the net for New Jersey. Andrew Murphy netted another goal for the Tomahawks but it was too little, too late. Patrick Pugliese got the win in goal as he made 42 saves. David Tomeo stopped 26 shots in the loss.

Lone Star 3 @ Corpus Christi 1 - The Lone Star Brahmas won their 10th game in a row as they took down the Corpus Christi IceRays 3-1. Matthew Rickard, Joey Baez and Thomas Daskas all lit the lamp for Lone Star. Ludvig Persson was nearly perfect as he stopped 25 of 26 Corpus Christi shots. Stephen Kyrkostas registered the only goal for the IceRays while Jeremy Forman made 17 stops. 

Austin 4 @ Chippewa 5 - Connor McGrath scored twice as the Chippewa Steel held off a furious rally from the Austin Bruins to win 5-4 on Friday night. Goals from McGrath, Jacob Dirks, Luke Farthing and Braden Lindstrom gave the Steel a 4-0 lead just five minutes into the second period. Barrett Brooks broke the goose egg for the Bruins but McGrath responded with his second goal of the night. Jed Pietila chipped in two goals to spark the comeback for Austin. Josef Mysak got the Bruins within one but Trent Burnham made 15 of his 35 saves in the final period. Tyler Shea stopped 22 shots in the loss. 

Minot 3 @ Bismarck 2 (OT) - Will Crull scored at the 3:02 mark of overtime to give the Minot Minotauros a 3-2 win over the Bismarck Bobcats. The Minotauros forced overtime as Kevin Ness scored with just 11 seconds remaining in regulation. That came just a minute 21 seconds after Trea Irey gave the Bobcats the lead late. Braeden Bartoo also score for Minot in the win while Jacob Marti scored for Bismarck. Ben Garrity turned aside 33 shots as he picked up his 15th win of the season. Andrew Miller blocked 27 saves for Bismarck.

Amarillo 4 @ Odessa 0 - David Hill scored twice while Max Gutjahr made 11 saves as the Amarillo Bulls shutout the Odessa Jackalopes 4-0. Jordan Venegoni notched a goal and an assist while Niclas Puikko-nen also netted a goal for Amarillo. Zach Stern stopped 42 shots in the loss for the Jackalopes. 

Maine 2 @ Fairbanks 5 - Laker Aldridge notched a goal and two assists as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs beat the Maine Nordiques 5-2. Lucas Erickson and Parker Brown chipped in a goal and an assist. Jasper Lester also scored for the Ice Dogs. Mattias Sholl turned aside 31 shots to improve to 22-8-3 on the year. Trent Grimshaw potted a pair of goals for Maine while Connor Androlewicz made 32 saves in a losing effort.

New Mexico 3 @ Kenai River 4 - Zach Krajnik’s goal late in the third period propelled the Kenai River Brown Bears over the New Mexico Ice Wolves 4-3. Porter Schachle and Peter Morgan each tallied a goal and an assist for Kenai River while Cody Moline also found the back of the net. Landon Pavlisin made 30 saves to snap the Brown Bears losing streak. Emil Gabrielson had himself a night as he netted two goals and logged an assist. Brandon Holt notched the other tally for the Ice Wolves. Henrik Laursen took the loss as he made 39 saves.
