Kenai River forward Thrun makes NCAA D1 commitment

January 1, 2020
The Kenai River Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Theo Thrun has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Western Michigan University in the NCHC.

Thrun, 18, is in his first season playing junior hockey in the NAHL. The 5’11/165 lbs. native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, is currently 2nd in team scoring with 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 34 games played for the 1st place Brown Bears.

Thrun’s 37 points rank tied for 6th in NAHL scoring and his 17 goals rank tied for 3rd in the league. He also ranks tied for 3rd in shots on goal this season with 110.

“I’m thrilled to be going back home to play for Western Michigan. The NAHL has made me a better player and I couldn’t have done it without my coaches and teammates,” said Thrun.

“Theo has been very good for our team this first half of the season, he’s a smart player who continues to grow his game with the more experience he gains. We couldn’t be more proud of the work he’s put in so far this season and are extremely excited for him to have earned this opportunity,” said Brown Bears head coach Kevin Murdock.
