Ice Wolves road win highlights New Year's Eve games

New Mexico 5 @ Amarillo 2 - Emil Gabrielson had two goals and an assist and Garrett MacKay made 38 saves to lead New Mexico to a 5-2 in Amarillo. Gabrielson scored on an odd-man rush to give New Mexico the 1-0 lead midway through the 1st period. Late in the period, Lauri Sertti would answer for Amarillo to send the teams into the dressing rooms tied at 1-1. The Ice Wolves regained their one goal lead early in the 2nd period on a goal from Spencer Rudrud. The lead increased to 3-1 as Keegan Langefels fired a shot from the blue line. Late in the period, Matt Allen Scored his 15th goal of the year, notching the tally on the powerplay, to bring the Bulls within a single goal. New Mexico would pull away from Amarillo in the third period, as Gabrielson and Drew Lorinchak would net goals, solidifying the Ice Wolves victory. Charlie Glockner made 12 saves in the loss.
 
Minot 4 @ Bismarck 2 – The Minotauros avenged two losses last weekend to pick up a 4-2 road win in Bismarck on Tuesday as Kyler Kleven led the way with three points. Kleven got the scoring started midway through the 1st period, which was answered by a goal from Bismarck’s Hunter Olson. After a scoreless 2nd period, Minot put the game away with three goals in the 3rd period from Dan Russell, Kevin Ness, and Braeden Bartoo. Olson would add his second of the game late in the 3rd period to make it a 4-2 final. Ben Garrity made 25 saves in the win, while Ryan Ullan made 25 saves in the loss.
 
Maine 7 @ Johnstown 2 – For the second straight game, Johnstown forward Christian Gorscak had a three-point night to lead the Tomahawks to another win over the Maine Nordiques thanks to a 7-2 win on Tuesday. Things looked good for the Nordiques early as they took a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Emmanuel Sanchez and Stefan Owens. After that, it was all Tomahawks. Johnstown tied the game at 2-2 later in the 1st period with goals from Gorscak and Andrew Murphy. The Tomahawks added three goals in the 2nd period, which included another from Gorscak and others from Brendan Blair and Max Kouznetsov. Tristan Poissant and Sean Bauchens added 3rd period goals to make it a 7-2 final. David Tomeo made 26 saves in the win, while Marco Duronio made 34 saves in the loss.
 
Shreveport 4 @ Corpus Christi 1 – Mudbugs goalie Richie Parent made 26 saves to lead his team to a 4-1 road win against the IceRays. Things were looking good for the IceRays as they scored the lone goal of the 1st period as Benjamin Biester scored his first goal of the season. After that, it was all Shreveport as they took a 3-1 lead with three goals in the 2nd period from Ryan Dickinson, Alexis Girard, and Brent Keefer. Warren Natyshak added a 3rd period goal to complete the 4-1 win. IceRays goalie Jeremy Forman made 21 saves in the loss.
 
St. Cloud 3 @ MN Wilderness 5 – Tyler Watkins scored twice to lead the Wilderness to a 5-3 win on Tuesday night. The Wilderness opened up a 2-0 lead midway through the game as Mitch Allard and Watkins scored. The Blizzard tied the game at 2-2 as Jack Suchy and Luke Aquaro scored. The Wilderness put the game away with three straight goals in the 3rd period as Watkins added his second goal of the game and Jonathan Morrison and Alec Cokley also scored. Ryan O’Neil added the other goal for St. Cloud. Kaleb Johnson made 28 saves in the win, while Sam Metcalf made 40 saves in the loss.
