St. Cloud defenseman Murray makes NCAA D1 commitment

Alex Murray played for Team NAHL at the 2019 Sirius Ice Hockey World Cup in Sochi, Russia.

The St. Cloud Blizzard of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman and Team NAHL member Alex Murray has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Miami University in the NCHC.
 
Murray, 19, is in his second season playing in the NAHL. The 5’11/175 lbs. native of Glenview, Illinois, has five points in 23 games played so far this season.
 
Murray spoke more on the program at Miami and what influenced his decision to continue his hockey career there. “I chose Miami because of all the great things they have to offer,” Murray said. “The new coaching staff is unbelievable and I wanted to be part of a of the culture and hockey program that they are building.”
 
The hockey program wasn’t the only thing that influenced Murray’s decision to head to Ohio. “On top of the hockey, the academics there are top-notch, they have a support system in place that will help me be the best that I can be.” Murray said. “It has always been my dream school and I am extremely excited for this opportunity.”
 
Murray has played in 67 NAHL games so far and represented the NAHL this past summer on Team NAHL at the 2019 Sirius Junior Club World Cup. 
 
Murray is very appreciative of his time with the Blizzard and the league.“Playing for the Blizzard and in the NAHL has given me all the opportunity to develop as not only a hockey player, but as a person,” Murray said. ” Moe and Casey are great coaches and they push me to be a better player everyday. Plus, my teammates are good guys to be around and have helped me along the way.”
 
Now in his second season coaching Murray, Head Coach/ GM, Moe Mantha spoke on the commitment. “As and organization we are excited for Alex and this opportunity at Miami,” Mantha said. “He will do well, he has good character and we look forward to seeing where this opportunity will take him in the future.”
