Ice Dogs offense explodes against Jets in Thanksgiving win

Janesville 2 @ Fairbanks 9 - In the lone NAHL game on Thursday, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs got off to a slow start on Thanksgiving, but they found their way late in the first period and then cruised to a 9-2 victory over the Janesville Jets.
Nick Nardella scored just 1:19 into the game to give the Jets an early lead. Jordon Halverson doubled the Jets advantage with his third tally of the season.
From there it was all Ice Dogs as Ethan Benz potted a pair of goals to tie the game heading into the first intermission. Mason Plante scored early in the second period to give Fairbanks its first lead of the game. It was towards the end of the middle period when the Ice Dogs began to pull away as Nathan Butler scored his first two goals of the season 49 seconds apart to make the lead 5-2. Plante added his second goal of the game to give the Ice Dogs a 6-2 lead after 40 minutes.
Matt Koethe netted a shorthanded goal halfway through the third before Benz completed the hat trick with a goal in the last minute. Brendan Murphy tacked on one more in the closing seconds to bring the score to 9-2.
Mattias Sholl grabbed the win in goal as he made 18 saves for Fairbanks. He improved to 12-7-2 on the year. Grant Riley and Max Miller combined for 35 saves in the loss for Janesville.
