Friday Finals: Wings halt Steel streak with road win

Kenai River forward Theo Thrun scored two goals, including the overtime-winner, as the Brown Bears picked up a 4-3 OT win against the Northeast Generals.

Aberdeen 8 @ Chippewa 1 - Seven different Aberdeen Wings got on the scoresheet as the Aberdeen Wings brought the Chippewa Steel’s winning streak to a screeching halt with an 8-1 victory. Natan Vertes scored two goals while Pierson Brandon, Jack Powell and Riley Murphy all had a goal and two assists. Cade Neilson, Antonio DePaolo and Jordan Randall also found the back of the net. Henry Welsch grabbed the win in goal as made 22 saves for Aberdeen. Jacob Dirks had the only goal for the Steel in the loss.  
 
Kenai River 4 @ Northeast 3 (OT) - Theo Thrun’s second goal of the game was the overtime winner as the Kenai River Brown Bears topped the Northeast Generals 4-3. Kenai River scored the game tying goal with just four seconds remaining in regulation as Max Helgeson knocked in his fourth goal of the season. Preston Weeks also scored for the Brown Bears in the win. Landon Pavlisin got the win in goal as he made 32 saves. Dylan Schuett potted a pair of goals while Michael Heneghan also found the back of the net for Northeast. Joey Stanizzi took the loss as he made 22 stops. 
 
MN Wilderness 3 @ St. Cloud 0 - Kaleb Johnson turned aside all 23 shots fired in his direction as the Minnesota Wilderness defeated the St. Cloud Blizzard 3-0. Blake Holmes, Tyler Watkins and Kimball Johnson each had a goal and an assist for the Wilderness. Britt League took the loss for St. Cloud as he made 27 saves. 
 
Minot 2 @ Bismarck 5 - Tim Piechowski’s three point night led the Bismarck Bobcats to a 5-2 victory over the Minot Minotauros. Will Hillman, Austin Schwartz and Dawson Klein all scored for the Bobcats as well. Andrew Miller stopped 19 shots to pick up the win for Bismarck. Isak Dahlin and Joseph Harguindeguy contributed goals for Minot. Ben Garrity took the loss in goal as he made 31 saves. 
 
Austin 2 @ MN Magicians 1 (SO) - Dante Sheriff converted in the sixth round of the shootout to give the Austin Bruins a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Magicians. Ben Almqusist had the only goal for Austin in regulation while Luc Laylin netted the only goal Minnesota. Jaxon Friedman stopped 26 shots to go with five of six shooters in the skills competition. Wes Mankowski played well enough to win as he made a total of 30 saves in the losing effort. 
 
Shreveport 2 @ Odessa 3 - The Odessa Jackalopes had a very encouraging start as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Shreveport with goals coming from Ben Thomas, Aeden Drossos and Matt Hutton. Conor Witherspoon and Garrett Steele got the Mudbugs within one but in the end it wasn’t enough. Aaron Randzzo got the win as he made 32 saves for the Jackalopes. Maiszon Balboa took the loss in the crease as he made 27 stops. 
 
Fairbanks 2 @ New Mexico 1 - Luke Ciolli’s shorthanded goal in the third period was the deciding goal as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs outlasted the New Mexico Ice Wolves by a score of 2-1. Nichoals Ostbloom netted his first goal of the season for Fairbanks. Mattias Sholl was excellent once as he made 27 stopes. Spencer Rudrud scored the only Ice Wolves goal and Josh Graziano turned aside 48 shots in a losing effort.
 
New Jersey 5 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2 - The New Jersey Titans won their ninth straight contest as they bested the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 5-2. Kyler Head netted two goals for the Titans while Matt Cameron, Matthew Iasenza and Jake LaRusso all found the scoresheet as well. Arseni Sergeev was spectacular as he made 40 saves in the victory. Zak Currie and Nikita Asylaev scored for the Knights in the loss.
 
Maine 2 @ Jamestown 3 (OT) - Playing in his first NAHL game, Renars Karkls was the overtime hero as he netted his first goal of the year to give the Jamestown Rebels a 3-2 win over the Maine Nordiques. Valerii Rykov led the way with three points, a goal and two assists for the Rebels. Noah Finstrom also chipped in a goal and an assist. Jon Howe grabbed the win in goal as he made 29 saves. Isaiah Fox and Jack Strauss provided the offense for the Nordiques. Avery Sturtz took the loss in net as he stopped 32 shots.
 
Johnstown 3 @ Maryland 2 - Christian Gorscak’s fifth goal of the year proved to be the game winner as Johnston outlasted the Maryland Black Bears 3-2. Sean Bauchens and Spencer DenBeste also netted goals for the Tomahawks. David Tomeo picked up the win as he made 22 saves. Anthony Mollica and Cameron Recchi lit the lamp for the Black Bears. Andrew Takacs took the loss in goal, he made 34 stops.
 
Corpus Christi 2 @ Amarillo 4 - Jordan Venegoni and Lauri Sertti had a goal and an assist to lead the Amarillo Bulls to as they doubled up the Corpus Christi IceRays 4-2. Niclas Puikkonen and Nick Trela also found the back of the net for the Bulls. Max Gutjahr earned the win in between the pipes as he made 27 saves. Ryan Coughlin and Cole Golden scored for the IceRays in a losing effort. Cal Sandquist made 31 saves. 
 
Janesville 3 @ Springfield 6 - Cameron Wuesthoff had a goal and two assists while Aaron Swanson potted a pair of goals as the Jr. Blues beat up on Janesville 6-3.Caden Villegas and Adisen Brueck found the back of the net and Seamus Campbell scored his first NAHL goal in the win. Ryan Wilson turned aside 28 of 31 shots. Nick Nardella, Charlie Schoen and Grant Hindman all netted tallies for Janesville. Grant Riley took the loss in net as he made 17 saves. 
 
Lone Star 1 @ Topeka 4 - The Topeka Pilots kept their place at the top of the South Division as they defeated the Lone Star Brahmas 4-1. Quinn Green, Connor Zilisch, Alexander Oberg and Kaiden Scott all found the back of the net in the victory. Guy Blessing grabbed the win in goal as he only needed to make 22 saves. Cayden Bailey stopped 13 shots for Lone Star while Noah Roofe provided the only goal for the Brahmas.
