Saturday Scores: Steel extend win streak to six with sweep

Carson Gallagher scored in both games this weekend as the Johnstown Tomahawks picked up a weekend sweep in Maryland.

Springfield 2 @ Chippewa 7 - The Chippewa Steel won their sixth game in a row as the Steel dominated the Springfield Jr. Blues by a score of 7-2. Spencer Oyler led all skaters with three points, a goal and two assists. Jaden Grant, Ryan Kerchoff, Kent Lee, and Killian Kiecker-Olson all had a goal and assist of their own in the win for Chippewa. Braden Lindstrom and Connor Szmul also lit the lamp. Grant Boldt got plenty of goal support as he made 27 saves to get the win. Carson Jones and Danila Larionovs picked up goals for the Jr. Blues and Ryan Wilson made 28 saves.
 
Johnstown 4 @ Maryland 1 - The Johnstown Tomahawks completed the sweep of Maryland as they topped the Black Bears 4-1. Bennett Stockdale potted a goal and an assist while Pavel Kharin, Spencer DenBeste and Carson Gallagher also scored. David Tomeo bested his old team yet again as he made 33 saves. Kyle Oleksiuk had the only goal for the Black Bears while Andrew Takacs made 33 stops. 
 
Lone Star 1 @ Amarillo 2 - Nick Trela’s power play goal with 3:26 remaining in regulation lifted the Bulls to their second consecutive win over the Lone Star Brahmas. Noah Carlin scored the other goal for Amarillo and Max Gutjahr picked up the win in goal as he made 19 saves. Sam Brennan provided the only offense for the Brahmas. Cayden Bailey stopped 39 of 41 shots.
 
Jamestown 4 @ Maine 2 - The Jamestown Rebels snapped their losing streak as they doubled up the Maine Nordiques 4-2. Kasyn Kruse, Noah Finstrom, Jack Moore and Kyle Peters all lit the lamp for the Rebels. Jon Howe made 31 saves to earn the victory in goal. Jack Strauss and Cannon Green found the back of the net for the Nordiques. Connor Androlewicz took the loss despite making 25 saves.
 
Northeast 6 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 5 (SO) - It may be the best comeback of the season as the Northeast Generals trailed the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 5-1 heading into the final period of play on Saturday. It took the Generals just 5:52 to tie the game as Joseph Mancuso, Ethan Destefani, Trevor Smith and Gerard Marretta all scored early in the third to tie the game at five. Jack Ring scored the only goal of the shootout and Joey Stanizzi stopped all three shooters he faced to give the Generals a 6-5 win. Kyle Gierman also scored for Northeast. Shane Murphy, Lincoln Hatten, Nikita Asylaev, Johnny Kalian and Zak Currie netted goals for the Knights. 
 
Shreveport 4 @ Topeka 1 - Sam Miller and Timofei Khokhlachev each tallied a goal and an assist as the Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Topeka Pilots 4-1. David Breazeale and Jack Smiley also found the back of the net. Richie Parent denied 23 Topeka shots to pick up the win. Austin McCarthy scored the only goal for the Pilots while Jakub Dobes turned aside 23 shots. 
 
Odessa 2 @ Corpus Christi 1 - The Odessa Jackalopes snapped their losing streak as they bested the Corpus Christi IceRays 2-1. Nick Kiemel’s first goal of the season tied the game late in the first period while Vilho Saariluoma’s goal early in the second period stood as the game winner. Aaron Randazzo only needed 19 saves to grab the victory in the crease. Ryan Coughlin scored for the IceRays in the loss. Cal Sandquist stopped 25 shots in a losing effort.
 
MN Wilderness 3 @ Austin 1 - Nick Portz scored twice and Kaleb Johnson made 24 saves as the Minnesota Wilderness defeated the Austin Bruins 3-1. Lewis Crosby netted the other goal for the Wilderness while Nate Horn and Kimball Johnson each finished with two assists. Barrett Brooks tallied a goal for Austin. Tyler Shea stopped 23 shots in the loss. 
 
MN Magicians 1 @ Fairbanks 4 - Ethan Benz had two goals and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs avoided the sweep as they beat the Minnesota Magicians 4-1. Andrew Garby and Matt Koethe potted goals as well for Fairbanks. Mattias Sholl stopped 20 of 21 Minnesota shots to earn his third win of the year. Marko Reifenberger provided the only offense for the Magicians. Samuel Vyletelka made 28 saves on 31 Fairbanks shots.
 
Janesville 1 @ Kenai River 4 - The Brown Bears won their second consecutive game over the Janesville Jets as they took Saturday night’s contest by a score of 4-1. Porter Schachle led all skaters with a goal and an assist. Brandon Lajoie, Max Helgeson and Preston Weeks all found the back of the net as well. Landon Pavlisin allowed just a single goal to win his second game in as many nights. Jan Lasak scored again for Janesville with the helpers going to Jake Dunlap and Isaac Novak. Cristian Wong-Ramos was dealt the loss in net.
