NAHL Weekend Preview

October 11, 2019
It is a big weekend in the NAHL with 27 games from Friday through Sunday as the action heats up in October.

It was another big week for the NAHL as three more players made NCAA Division 1 commitments, bringing the 2019-20 season total to 93 players who have made NCAA Division 1 commitment to date.

In addition, 16 players with NAHL ties were recognized on the National Hockey League’s (NHL) ‘Prospects to Watch’ list for 2020 draft-eligible players with the release on Monday of NHL Central Scouting's preliminary list of players to watch in North America and Europe.

In the Central Division this weekend, one of the hottest teams in the league, the 1st place Bismarck Bobcats, take their show on the road this weekend to face the St. Cloud Blizzard with a lone game on Saturday. The Blizzard will also host a game on Friday against the Minnesota Wilderness. The Wilderness, who are coming off a 3-2 shootout win on Thursday over the Austin Bruins, will then visit Austin on Saturday to conclude their weekend. Two teams trying to shake off small losing skids, the Aberdeen Wings and Minot Minotauros, will battle in a pair of games this weekend in Minot.

In the East Division, the 1st place New Jersey Titans are idle, so the remainder of the teams are looking for points to try and climb the standings to catch New Jersey. The 2nd place WBS Knights are riding a two-game winning streak and will look to add to that with three home games against the visiting Northeast Generals. The Jamestown Rebels are looking to snap a four-game slide as they are in Maine for three games against the Nordiques. The Maryland Black Bears will be at home looking to extend their two-game winning streak as they host Johnstown for two games.

In the Midwest Division, the HockeyTV Free Game of the Week features the first of a two game series between the Springfield Jr. Blues and the 1st place Chippewa Steel. The Steel are riding a four-game winning streak. Also riding a four-game winning streak are the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, who have their home-opener this weekend, have also won their last four straight and will host the Minnesota Magicians, who are looking to snap a six-game losing streak. The Janesville Jets will visit the Kenai River Brown Bears for their home-opener in a three-game series with both teams looking to snap small two-game slides.

In the South Division, two of the hottest teams in the league are gunning for sole possession of 1st place this weekend. The Corpus Christi IceRays, who have won four straight games, which included a 2-0 shutout on Thursday night, will continue their three-game home series against the Odessa Jackalopes this weekend. The hottest team in the league, the Lone Star Brahmas, who are off to a perfect 8-0 start, face a tough test this weekend as they are in Amarillo for two games against the Bulls and then travel to New Mexico for a Sunday game against the Ice Wolves. The final series features the Shreveport Mudbugs on the road to face the Topeka Pilots.
