NAHL Weekend Preview: Opening Night

This is it! The opening of the 2019-20 NAHL regular season begins tonight as six games are on the slate for Opening Night.

 

The NAHL is entering its 45th season and is coming off another record-breaking season of NCAA commitments. No other junior league in the world saw as many NCAA commitments for their players, while they were actually playing in the league.

 

This weekend is a prelude to the 17th NAHL Showcase, which takes place next week from September 18-21 at the Super Rink in Blaine, MN.

 

 

This weekend marks the debut of the NAHL newest teams, the Maine Nordiques and New Mexico Ice Wolves.

 

While action in the Central and Midwest Divisions does not get fully underway until next week’s NAHL Showcase, this weekend features a pretty full slate of games in the East and the South Divisions.

 

The aforementioned Nordiques are on the road this weekend as they take on the Northeast Generals. The defending East Division Champion Johnstown Tomahawks are also on the road to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights in the pair of games. The final series in the East has the New Jersey Titans on the road to face the Maryland Black Bears.

 

In the South, the New Mexico Ice Wolves make their NAHL debut as they travel to Shreveport to face the Mudbugs, while the other series has the Corpus Christi IceRays under new head coach Al Rooney traveling to Topeka to face the Pilots.

 

In the Midwest Division, the battle of Wisconsin resumes as the Chippewa Steel and Janesville Jets face one another in a home and home series.
