Amarillo defenseman Bezick makes NCAA D1 commitment
September 10, 2019
The Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Oliver Bezick has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey for Michigan Tech University in the WCHA.
The Huskies, who play in the NCAA Division I’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association, will welcome Bezick to a roster that already holds a former Bulls player, Brendan Datema, who enters his freshman season in 2019-20.
Last season, Bezick, 19, was an affiliate player for the club, making two appearances during the February matchup between the Bulls and the Odessa Jackalopes. The remainder of the season saw the 6’0/180 lbs. native of Delray Beach, Florida craft a standout season for HoneyBaked U18 program.
“It was an easy decision to commit to Michigan Tech,” said Bezick. “I am really excited to join the hockey program and become a student there. I fell in love with the campus and the city of Houghton on my visit this past summer. The main reasons I chose Michigan Tech are that the school have a very strong academic program suited to my interests, and Coach Shawhan is an amazing coach with a history of developing great players. With all that said, I cannot wait to become a Husky.”
Bulls Head Coach Rocky Russo showed his appreciation for Bezick’s abilities and potential in Division I. “We are very proud of Oliver for his commitment to Michigan Tech,” said Russo. “This is the second year in a row that we’ve had one of our defenseman move on to their program. Their coaching staff is excellent at developing and moving players on to the pro level and we think Oliver will have a tremendous experience there. Congratulations to Oliver and his family for this outstanding opportunity.”
