June 12, 2019
The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Nigel Nelson has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Nelson, 21, recorded 6 goals and 8 assists for 14 points for the Jr. Blues in 51 appearances after a brief stint in Fairbanks to begin the season.
Overall in three NAHL seasons, the 6’3/200 lbs. native of Crystal Lake, Illinois, suited up in 171 games and tallied 43 points (19 goals, 24 assists) between the Austin Bruins, Topeka Roadrunners, Fairbanks Ice Dogs, and the Jr. Blues.
Nelson also had a brief stint with the Granite City Lumberjacks in the NA3HL during the 2015-16 season.
“Nigel found his role on the team and excelled in that position,” head coach Tyler Rennette said. “His experience was beneficial on the ice and in the locker room. We wish Nigel the best of luck next season at MSOE.”
The MSOE Raiders play out of Milwaukee, WI and are part of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Raiders currently have one Jr. Blues alumnus on their roster (Kevin Shand) and four NAHL alumni in total. Nelson is the 16th Jr. Blues player to make a college commitment this season.
