May 1, 2019
The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Sam Sterne has committed to the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Sterne, 20, has played in 92 games for the Jr. Blues over the last two seasons after being acquired from the Kenai River Brown Bears. In total, Sterne appeared in 165 NAHL games and compiled 8 goals, 38 assists, and 191 penalty minutes.

During the 2018-19 season, the 5’10/181 lbs. native of Batavia, Illinois, recorded 22 points in 57 regular season games played.

“Sam provided a reliable, consistent veteran presence on the blue line this season,” coach Tyler Rennete commented. “UW-Superior is getting a great player and we wish the best for Sam.”

The University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellow Jackets play out of Superior, Wisconsin. They are a part of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and won the NCAA DIII National Championship in 2002.
