Springfield defenseman Murray makes NCAA commitment
April 23, 2019
The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that defenseman Ryan Murray has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, a member of the MIAC.
Murray, 20, provided a physical presence on the Jr. Blues backend from the time he was acquired from the Minnesota Wilderness last season. In 37 games this season, Murray tallied one goal and 7 assists for eight points and a grit the team needed in rough times.
In his two-year NAHL career, Murray suited up in 71 NAHL games and had 11 points.
“Ryan is a great kid with the right mindset and a hard work ethic,” said coach Tyler Rennete, “Hamline is getting a great player and an even better person. We wish Ryan nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Murray played three seasons of high school hockey in Minnesota for Prior Lake High School.
Hamline University's athletics nickname is the "Pipers". They are a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and have six conference championships, most recently in 2015. Murray will join a roster that featured 8 NAHL and 4 NA3HL alumni last season.
