Aberdeen, Top Prospects forward Sladic makes NCAA DI commitment

March 6, 2019

John Sladic turned an appearance at the 2019 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament into an NCAA Division I commitment to Miami University.

The Aberdeen Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that Top Prospects forward John Sladic has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Miami University in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).

Sladic, 21, is currently in his second season playing in the NAHL for the Wings. The 5'9/168 lbs. native of Novi, Michigan, has appeared in 103 career NAHL regular season games and has recorded 89 points. During the 2018-19 season, he is currently tied for 2nd in team scoring with 50 points in 44 games played for the 1st place Wings.

Sladic was the first selection by the Aberdeen Wings and 10th overall in the 2017 NAHL Entry Draft.  He also recently participated in the 2019 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament just a few weeks ago where he had one goal in 2 games played for the Central Division team.

"John has strong character and professionalism.  That along with the willingness to work has last two seasons for the Wings, has allowed him to get this great opportunity to play at the NCAA Division I level.  The RedHawks are getting a first class individual,” said Wings Head Coach Scott Langer.

The Miami University RedHawks (Ohio) are located in Oxford, OH.  They play on the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).  This season they have an overall record of 11-19-4 going 5-15-2 in conference play.  Former Wings defenseman Taylor Richart (2010-2011) also attended Miami University.

"I want to thank the entire Wings organization, the Odde Family, Coach Langer, Coach Hill, my billets, my teammates and my family for helping and supporting me throughout this journey.  I could not have done this without them.  I'm looking forward to finishing out this season strong and am extremely excited to continue my hockey career at Miami University,” said Sladic.
