Northeast, Top Prospects dman Higgins makes NCAA DI commitment

February 21, 2019

Mike Higgins turned a good showing at the 2019 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament into an NCAA Division I commitment to Holy Cross.

The Northeast Generals of North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that defenseman Mike Higgins has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Holy Cross in Atlantic Hockey.

The 5’10/210 lbs. native of Needham, Massachusetts is in his second year with the Generals in the NAHL. During the 2018-19 season, Higgins has played 42 games and has 4 goals and 21 assists for 25 points.

Higgins commitment comes fresh off a great performance at the 2019 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament that was held in Attleboro, MA for the first time this week as he played for the NAHL Selects Blue team

Higgins, 18, has been a mainstay of Lovell Hockey since a young age.  He played for the New England Knights before playing three seasons for the Boston Advantage before playing with the Generals.

He currently coaches with Lovell Hockey as well, running skills and helping coach youth teams with the New England Knights.

“It is great for Mike.  He works so hard and is a great kid.  Really proud of him for the steps he has taken to ensure his game kept improving.  Having known and Coached Mike since he was really young we always thought he would develop into an elite player and it’s extremely rewarding to see it pay off.  Having been able to Coach Mike with the New England Knights at a young age and now with the Generals has been a great experience,” said Generals Head Coach Joe Lovell.

“We are excited for Mike.  He is a fantastic skater with an outstanding shot.  Looking forward to watching him play at the next level and happy that we will get to watch him play for a great local school like Holy Cross.  He also continues to solidify our great relationship with Lovell Hockey and Boston Advantage. It’s a great relationship that we hope will continue to produce great talent,” said Generals GM Bryan Erikson.
