The Aberdeen Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward and captain Nic Sicoly has announced his college commitment to Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta.
The 5’9/170 lbs. native of Saulte Ste. Marie, Ontario, is in his second season with the Wings. Sicoly, 21, was named captain of the Wings this season and so far during the 2018-19 campaign he has played in 38 games and recorded 38 points (21 goals, 17 assists).
During the 2017-18 season, Nicoly served as one of the Wings assistant captains, played in 46 games for the Wings and put up 14 goals and 27 assists (41 points) with a +20 rating. At the Wings annual awards banquet, Sicoly was given the Heart Award. Voted on by his teammates and the Wings staff, the Heart Award is given to the player who digs deeper and plays the game from the heart.
“Nic’s leadership, work ethic and character have allowed him to achieve big things including a commitment to Mount Royal University. Nic has helped set the bar high when it comes to the Aberdeen Wings standards. He is a special young man that has a lot of success ahead of him. Mount Royal has got themselves a high end individual,” said Wings Head Coach Scott Langer.
“This commitment is extremely exciting. It would not have been possible without the support of my family, ownership, coaches and teammates. I look forward to beginning a new chapter next fall at Mount Royal University,” said Sicoly.
Mount Royal University plays in U Sports, Canada’s governing body for university sports, and the highest level of play at the university level under the auspices of U Sports.
