Saturday Scores: Tomahawks are playoff bound after sweep

Austin Bruins and 2019 Top Prospects selection Dante Sheriff had a big weekend, which included the overtime-winning goal on Saturday to help his team pick up a weekend sweep.

Jamestown 1 @ Johnstown 3 - The first playoff spot in the 2019 Robertson Cup playoffs goes to the Johnstown Tomahawks as they punched their ticket to the postseason after a 3-1 victory over the Jamestown Rebels. Carson Briere, Roman Kraemer and Carter Dwyer all found the back of the net for Johnstown while Carter McPhail turned aside 28 of 29 Jamestown shots. Antonio Venuto netted the only goal for Jamestown. Ryan Keane was stuck with the loss after making 17 saves.
 
MN Magicians 4 @ Austin 5 (OT) - Dante Sheriff’s breakaway goal in overtime sent the Austin faithful home happy as the Bruins defeated the Magicians 5-4. The goal was Sheriff’s third point of the night, which led all skaters. Jared Christy and Hugh Larkin each potted a pair of goals in the victory. Kyle McClellan came on in relief and stopped all eight shots he had to face. Dysen Skinner, playing in his first NAHL game, made 32 saves for Minnesota. 
 
Brookings 1 @ Minot 4 - The Minot Minotauros finished off the sweep of the Brookings Blizzard with a convincing 4-1 win on Saturday night. Kyle Oleksiuk, Wilmer Skoog, Justin Kelley and Andrew Kangas all found the back of the net for the Minotauros. Alex Murray scored the only goal for Brookings. Ben Garritty had one blemish on the night but still stopped 27 shots. Jack Caruso took the loss for Brookings, he made 41 saves.
 
Chippewa 3 @ MN Wilderness 2 (SO) - Matt Clark’s goal in the shootout lifted the Chippewa Steel to a 3-2 victory and finished the weekend sweep of the Minnesota Wilderness. Connor Szmul and Brendan Ogle scored in regulation for the Steel while Josh Langford got the win in goal, making 22 saves and stopping all four shooters in the shootout. Nate Horn and Jack Johnson tallied goals for Minnesota. Kaleb Johnson was stuck with the loss after making 15 saves.
 
Topeka 1 @ Kenai River 2 - Markuss Komuls goal with 32 seconds remaining in regulation gave the Kenai River Brown Bears a 2-1 win over the Topeka Pilots and a weekend sweep. Preston Weeks also scored for the Brown Bears while Michael Spethmann finished with two assists. Gavin Enright won his second straight game as he made 36 saves for Kenai River. Emil Gransoe was 31 of 33 on the night for the Pilots in net. 
 
Aberdeen 1 @ Bismarck 4 - The Aberdeen Wings’ 19 game winning streak came to an end on Saturday as the Bismarck Bobcats took care of the Wings by a score of 4-1. Andy Stoneman and Daniel Chladek each had a goal and an assist in the win. Mitchell Walinski and Adam Stacho also tallied for the Bobcats. John Roberts was on his ‘A’ game as the net minder kept 37 Aberdeen shots out of the net. Matt Vernon saw his personal winning steak end in the loss as he made 21 stops.
 
New Jersey 3 @ Maryland 4 - The Maryland Black Bears earned a weekend split after defeating the New Jersey Titans 4-3 on Saturday night. Max Borst had a goal and an assist in this one to lead Maryland. Luke Mountain, George Vonakis and Jake Sujishi all lit the lamp as well for the Black Bears. Anthony Del Tufo stopped 27 of 30 shots to pick up the win. Chris Garbe, Zach Nazzarett and Kyle Jeffers were the goal scorers for the Titans. Brandon Perrone took the loss in net as he denied 21 shots.
 
Springfield 3 @ Janesville 4 (OT) - The Janesville Jets picked up a crucial victory as Matt Hanewall’s second goal of the game won it for the home squad. Erik Bargholtz and Justin Engelkes also scored for the Jets in this one. Sam Metcalf picked up his fifth win of the year and second as a member of Janesville. Ben Schmidling had two goals and three points against his former team. Brandon Puricelli also had three points for the Jr. Blues. Jack Williams shut the door on 24 Janesville opportunities.                                                
 
Amarillo 3 @ Odessa 4 (SO) - In just his third NAHL game, Lev Bure was the hero as his goal in the shootout won the game for the Odessa Jackalopes over the Amarillo Bulls, 4-3. Joe Winkelmann scored twice in his second game with the club. Kellen Tharaldson also scored for Odessa in regulation. Alex Camarre bounced back after a tough night to make 43 saves in 65 minutes and stopping four out of five players in the shootout. Trey Bagwell, Jake Willets and Matt Allen all scored for the Bulls. Justin Evenson took the loss, he made 34 saves. 
 
Lone Star 3 @ Shreveport 2 (SO) - Blake Evennou scored the only goal of the shootout and the Lone Star come away with two wins in Shreveport to move just a point back of second place in the South Division. Joey Baez started the scoring just 41 seconds into the game. Vadi Kiryakov would also hop in on the scoring. Ryan Dickinson and CJ McGee brought the Mudbugs to a tie before Evennou’s game winner. Seth Eisele stood on his head as he made a career high 51 saves plus he denied all three Mudbugs in the shootout. Leo Chuard made 16 saves for the Mudbugs.
 
Corpus Christi 3 @ Fairbanks 6 - Five third period goals propelled the Fairbanks Ice Dogs to a 6-3 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays. Jack Johnston’s three points led all Fairbanks skaters, Grant Ledford deposited two goals while John Stampohar, Parker Brown and Luke Mobley all scored for Fairbanks. Nate Reid earned the win in goal as he made 27 stops. Samuel Vyletelka was busy all night long as he faced 53 shots, stopping 48 of them.
