Ice Dogs, Wild advance to West Division finals
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs and Wenatchee Wild advanced to the West Division finals of the Robertson Cup Playoffs after sweeping their respective best-of-five semifinals series.
The regular-season division champion Ice Dogs wrapped up their series against the Kenai River Brown Bears with a 7-2 triumph in Game 3 on Friday. Forward Alexander Jensen came through with a natural hat trick, including the game-winning goal, and an assist in the victory, and goaltender Joe Phillippi turned aside 44 shots.
In the other West Division semis, the Wild ended its series with the Alaska Avalanche with a 4-2 Game 3 victory on Friday. Forward Michael Di Puma connected for a goal and two assists in the win, and goaltender Brandon Jaeger made 16 saves.
In other divisional semifinals series, the Bismarck Bobcats hold a 2-games-to-1 series lead over the Central Division regular-season champion Alexandria Blizzard, while the Coulee Region Chill leads its series with the Owatonna Express, 2-1.
In the North, the regular-season champion St. Louis Bandits have a 2-1 series edge over the Janesville Jets, with the Michigan Warriors holding a 2-games-to-1 lead over the Traverse City North Stars.
The NAHL regular-season champion Topeka RoadRunners are up 2-1 in their South Division semifinals series over the Wichita Falls Wildcats, while the Amarillo Bulls hold a 2-games-to-1 lead over the Texas Tornado.
Game 4 of the six undecided semifinals series are scheduled for Saturday, April 9.
