New Jersey forward Machlitt makes NCAA DI commitment

January 29, 2019
The New Jersey Titans of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are excited to announce that forward Mitch Machlitt has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Army in Atlantic Hockey for the 2019-20 season.

The 20-year-old native of Maple Grove, Minnesota, has nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points in 30 games so far this season. In his first six games with the Titans, Machlitt (6’2/180) has two goals and an assist, plus a shootout-clinching goal in a comeback victory over the Jamestown Rebels.

"I'm so happy and proud for Mitch, I think it speaks volumes about his character and integrity in who he is as a man and his makeup," said Titans head coach Craig Doremus. "Any time you're traded, it's never an easy situation. It's an adjustment to a whole new playing style as well as lifestyle, and Mitch has come in our dressing room and has adapted well with the guys, and his game has risen as he gets more comfortable here."

The United States Military Academy is located in West Point, N.Y. and competes in the Atlantic Hockey Conference. The Cadets are led by head coach Brian Riley, and Machlitt said he could not be happier to join their program.

"It's been a dream to play Division I hockey since I was a kid, and being able to play at Army as well as serving my country will be a great honor," Machlitt said.

The Minnesota native played for the Aberdeen Wings and Corpus Christi IceRays before settling in New Jersey. While Machlitt is still getting accustomed to playing hockey in the Garden State, he credited the Titans staff in helping land the commitment as well as preparing him for the Division I collegiate level.

"With Army being so close to here, they were able to come and watch, and Craig and Bobby helped me establish a connection with them," he said. "Division I hockey is a huge step up, and working on the little things with an attention to detail should help me get ready for next year."
