Mudbugs knot up South standings with win on Monday

January 22, 2019

Conor Witherspoon had a goal and an assist in a 6-3 win on Monday.

Shreveport 6 @ Lone Star 3 - The Lone Star Brahmas’ six-game winning streak came to a halt on Monday against the visiting Shreveport Mudbugs as the visitors brought home a 6-3 win. As a result they now share second place in the NAHL South Division with that same Mudbugs squad. Shreveport who had controlled play from the initial puck drop finally broke through at 16:56 of the first on a redirect in front by Conor Witherspoon with assists to CJ Regula and Anton Rubtsov. Early in the 2nd period the Mudbugs pushed the lead to 2-0 on a wrister from the near circle by Timothy Clifton with assists to Regula and Jay Feiwell. The Brahmas tied the game later in the 2nd period as Eric Huss stick handled in front to get Maiszon Balboa moving then lifted it over the right pad to cut the lead in half. Lone Star evened it up off a defensive zone draw as Thomas Daskas picked up the puck in stride, drove the front of the net and ripped it through Balboa at the 19:06 mark. Less than a minute into the third, Shreveport regained the lead on the power play as Regula fed it back to Clifton who sent it across ice to Witherspoon. Clifton followed the puck for the return pass then skated to the near dot and fired it through traffic over Seth Eisele’s left shoulder. Later in the period, Anton Rubtsov had a clear path to the front of the net and beat Eisele five hole. Down two the Brahmas pulled Eisele with just over four minutes to play. The gamble would not pay off as Ryan Dickinson scored into the empty net unassisted at the 17:59 mark. Just 12 seconds later Gabe Potyk found Vadim Kiryakov in the high slot. Kiryakov went backhand-forehand and put it past Balboa stick side. Once again Eisele was called to the bench late and Feiwell blocked a shot then flipped it down ice into the vacant net for the 6-3 final. Boxscore
