NAHL Weekend Preview

December 21, 2018
On the verge of the Christmas holiday next week, the NAHL heads back to the ice with an abbreviated schedule of just 12 games on Friday and Saturday this weekend, but despite the lack of games there are plenty of intriguing match-ups.

The NAHL had four more NCAA Division I commitments this week, bringing the season total to 140.

The Central Division will be off this week, but meanwhile in the East Division, teams will be looking to gain ground on division-leading Johnstown, who is idle this weekend. Streaks will collide in Jamestown as the 2nd place Rebels, who have won two in a row, will host the Maryland Black Bears, who enter the weekend on the three-game winning streak. In the other series, the Northeast Generals will look to get back to the winning side of the things as they travel to New Jersey to face the Titans. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights are also idle this weekend.

In the Midwest Division, half the teams are in action this weekend. The 1st place Minnesota Magicians will look to snap their two-game slide as they have a home-and-home series with Chippewa to take on the Steel, who have won two straight games. The Springfield Jr. Blues are the other Midwest Division team in action as they travel to Topeka to take on the Pilots from the South Division. The Jr. Blues are just a point behind the idle Kenai River Brown Bears for the 4th and final playoff spot. The Janesville Jets and Fairbanks Ice Dogs are also idle this weekend.

In the South Division, one the hottest teams in the league, the Corpus Christi IceRays, will put their six-game winning streak on the line with a series on the road against the Lone Star Brahmas, who have won just two of their last 10 games. The 2nd place Shreveport Mudbugs are on the road in Odessa for a two-game set against the Jackalopes. With just 32 games remaining in the regular season, the Jacks are eight points out of the 4th and final playoff spot. While Topeka will host Springfield from the Midwest Division, the South Division-leading Amarillo Bulls are idle.
