Brown Bears help playoff chances with 2-1 win on Thursday

Kenai River 2 @ MN Magicians 1 – Goaltender Gavin Enright made 25 saves as the Kenai River Brown Bears posted one of their biggest wins of the season as they went on the road and beat the division-leading Magicians, 2-1 in the lone NAHL game on Thursday night. The win moved the Brown Bears back into sole possession of the fourth and final playoff spot in the Midwest Division, two points ahead of Springfield.
After a scoreless 1st period, it took the Brown Bears just :06 seconds to score the game’s first goal in the 2nd period as JJ Boucher netted his first goal of the season with assists to Alex Klekotka and Michael Spethmann. With under a minute left in the period, the Magicians equalized to tie the game at 1-1 with Joel Pavey’s 5th goal of the season with Logan Severson and Chris Konin picking up assists.
The game-winner came early in the 3rd period as Spethmann scored his 10th goal of the season as he potted a shorthanded goal with assists to Zach Krajnik and Preston Weeks. Enright would make the lead stand the rest of the game, which included nine saves in the 3rd period. Magicians goalie Ethan Haider played well in the loss making 31 saves on 33 shots.
