New Jersey goalie Ladd makes NCAA DI commitment

November 29, 2018
The New Jersey Titans of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are excited to announce that goaltender Matt Ladd has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Canisius College.

Ladd, a native of Getzville, New York, is in his second season with the Titans. In 16 games this season, the 20-year-old goaltender has a record of 10-4-0 with a .925 save percentage and a 2.45 goals against average. In 44 career games in New Jersey, Ladd has a record of 23-15-2.

"Matt is an unbelievable hockey player and only eclipsed by who he is off the ice as a person, so I'm extremely proud and happy for Matt and his family on this accomplishment," said Titans head coach Craig Doremus.

Canisius College is a Division I school located in Buffalo, N.Y. The Golden Griffins compete in the Atlantic Hockey Conference and is coached by Trevor Large. Ladd, who will be joining the school and its team in two weeks, expressed his excitement upon his commitment to Canisius.

"It feels good to be able to go back home and play Division I hockey in front of my friends and family. I feel like I really worked hard for it, and I'm excited that one of my dreams has come true," Ladd said.

Doremus also spoke about Ladd's development with the Titans over the last two seasons and how his work ethic paved the way for him becoming one of the top goaltenders in the NAHL.

"A lot of the credit goes to himself. Last year he settled in and had a really good year with us, especially down the stretch where his play continued to improve. Over the course of the summer, he changed up his training regimen both on and off the ice, and has come back this year of sound mind and body and I think it's carried over to his play on the ice," Doremus said of Ladd. "His numbers speak for itself and he's been a force in net for us throughout."

When talking about his tenure in New Jersey, Ladd gave the team credit for preparing him on taking that next step to the NCAA level.

"I really appreciate everything the organization has done for me. Coming in and having the opportunity to play games night in and night out, it was definitely a good stepping stone for the collegiate level. My time with the Titans is something I'll cherish forever," he said.
