Saturday Scores: Tomahawks sweep for East lead

Andrew Kangas helped his Minot Minotauros to a weekend sweep in Bookings and 1st place in the Central Division.

Johnstown 5 @ New Jersey 3 - The Tomahawks finished off their sweep of the New Jersey Titans with a 5-3 win on Saturday. Oliver Benwell scored twice and added an assist while Carson Briere scored once and had two assists. Pavel Kharin and Bennett Stockdale also found the back of the net for Johnstown. Carter McPhail turned aside 23 shots to earn the win in goal. Ryan Naumovski found twine twice for the Titans and Kyle Jeffers also scored. Matt Ladd took the loss, stopping 30 shots. 
 
Maryland 2 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3 (OT) - Tyrone Bronte’s second goal of the game propelled the Knights to a 3-2 overtime win over the visiting Maryland Black Bears. Gabe Temple also lit the lamp for the Knights in the victory. Zach Stejskal was spectacular in goal as he made 48 saves. Jospeh Mancuso and Connor Pooley netted goals for Maryland and David Tomeo was stuck with the tough luck loss as he made 49 stops. 
 
Minot 6 @ Brookings 0 - For the second straight night, the Minotauros offense was unable to be contained as Minot scored a 6-0 win to finish the sweep of Brookings. Andrew Kangas scored two goals, Didrik Henbrant had a goal and an assist, while Nicolas Petruolo, Taylor Lantz, and Wilmer Skoog all found the back of the net as well. Ben Garrity earned his first shutout and second win of the season as he stopped all 16 shots thrown his way. For the Blizzard, McLean Dorr made 24 saves. 
 
Janesville 5 @ Chippewa 1 - The Jets finished off the weekend sweep of in-state rival Chippewa as Janesville emerged with a 5-1 victory. Matt Hanewall, Erik Palmqvist, Stanislav Dosek, Erik Bargholtz and Austin Koss lit the lamp for the Jets. Garrett Nieto allowed just one goal on 27 shots to earn the win in goal. Camden Thiesing scored the lone goal for the Steel while Owen Zdunski made 26 saves.
 
Aberdeen 5 @ MN Wilderness 4 - A back-and-forth affair between Aberdeen and Minnesota saw the Wings come away with a 5-4 win and a weekend sweep. Jonathan Bendorf led the Aberdeen offense with a goal and three assists. Tim Makowski scored two goals while Connor Beatty, and Joe Strada each had one goal. Matt Vernon got his second win of the weekend as he denied 23 shots. Gino Lucia provided most of the offense for Minnesota as he had two goals. Nate Horn and Nick Portz scored as well. Kaleb Johnson was handed the loss as he made 29 saves. 
 
Bismarck 1 @ Austin 2 - Jed Pietila’s early third period tally proved to be the game winner as the Bruins held off the Bobcats for a 2-1 victory. Carson Riddle provided the rest of the offense for Austin. Brett Miller stopped 18 of 19 shots to earn the win. Hunter Johannes picked up the only goal for the Bobcats, John Roberts was stuck with the loss as he made 34 saves.
 
Shreveport 0 @ Corpus Christi 4 - The IceRays avoided another weekend sweep at the hands of the Mudbugs by coming up with a 4-0 shutout win. Sam Best stopped 24 shots to pick up the victory in between the pipes. Blake Bennett, Brian Kramer and Noah Roofe had a goal and an assist. Mason Kohn provided the other tally for Corpus Christi. Leo Chuard was busy all night long as he made 53 saves in a losing effort. 
 
Kenai River 2 @ Springfield 3 - The Jr. Blues avoided a sweep on home ice as they defeated Kenai River 3-2. Brandon Puricelli increased his point streak to five as he netted his second goal of the weekend. Giovanni Carabelli and Jonathan Panisa scored as well for Springfield. Connor Scahill and Porter Schachle found the back of the net for Kenai River. Jack Williams got the win in the crease for the Jr. Blues as he made 27 saves. Dennis Westergard suffered the loss for the Brown Bears as he made 22 stops. 
 
Topeka 2 @ Amarillo 5 - The Amarillo Bulls won their 6th in a row as they offense remained red hot. Brett Abdelnour lit the lamp twice and Alex Peterson had three assists. Brenden Datema scored again and added an assist. Brendan West and David Ojamae each scored as well for Amarillo. Ryan Winter grabbed the win, he made 24 saves. Dallas Tulik and Matthew Francois scored for the Pilots and Emil Gransoe made 28 saves. 
 
Fairbanks 2 @ MN Magicians 3 - Jackson Nauss’ goal at 12:02 of the third period was the game winner as the Magicians salvaged a series split with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Cameron Buhl and Chris Konin also scored for the Magicians in the win. Ethan Haider was tremendous as he made 39 saves. Grant Ledford and Parker Brown provided the offense for Fairbanks while Nate Reid stopped 22 shots. 
 
Odessa 0 @ Lone Star 3 - The Lone Star Brahmas broke their dry spell and provided some support for their goaltender. Harrison Feeney got his first shutout of the year as he turned aside all 19 Odessa shots. Austin Grzenia, Michal Still and Matt Guerra all found the back of the net as Lone Star avoided the sweep on home ice. CJ Hapward got the loss in goal as he made 17 saves.
 
Jamestown 1 @ Northeast 2 - The Northeast Generals got the win in their home opener as they knocked off the Jamestown Rebels by a score of 2-1. Freddie Macciocchi scored the go ahead goal and provided the assist on Aurel Naus' tally in the first period. Marko Sturma was superb as he made 38 saves to pick up his win of the season. Sam Anzai scored the only goal for Jamestown and Ryan Keane was given the loss as he made 22 saves.
