New Jersey defenseman Biebel makes NCAA commitment

April 23, 2018
The New Jersey Titans of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are excited to announce that defenseman Holden Biebel has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at St. Mary’s University in Minnesota.

Biebel (6’0/180) is a native of Roxborough Park, Colorado, and is playing in his first season with the Titans. In 46 games this season, he recorded two goals and 11 assists for 13 points.

Titans head coach Craig Doremus spoke about the hard-nosed blueliner. “We’re proud of Holden and his family on achieving his dream of playing NCAA hockey. For any of your players to achieve that goal, it’s a testament to their talent, hard work, commitment, dedication, and sacrifice they have made.”

“He’s given us an element of toughness that we haven’t had in my two years here, but he’s also much more than that. His puck skills and playing ability have come a far way as well, and he’s worked really hard to improve that part of his game and become a solid defender us. Full credit to Holden on the work he’s put in throughout the year and I’m really happy with the results for him,” Doremus continued.

The St. Mary’s Cardinals, a Division III program, plays in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and is led by head coach Bill Moore. Biebel spoke about his commitment and how much it means for him to become a part of the program.

“It’s very big to get committed. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to my whole life; playing college hockey. I’m very humbled to be playing in Minnesota next year, but also ready to finish off this year with the Titans,” Biebel said.

The 20-year-old defenseman finished third on the team with 108 penalty minutes in the regular season and would never shy away from the physical aspect of the game. As the season progressed, his offensive game started to improve as well. In his first 20 games, Biebel only recorded two assists. In his final 26 games, he notched two goals and nine assists.

“Craig and Bobby, like so many of the coaches I’ve had throughout the years, made me the player that I am today and strive to make me better,” Biebel added.
