RoadRunners come from behind to beat Jacks on Thursday
March 22, 2018
Topeka 4 @ Odessa 3 – In the lone NAHL game on Thursday night, the Topeka RoadRunners fought their way back from three different deficits to beat the Odessa Jackalopes by a final score of 4-3. The game was the first of three on the weekend for Shriners Weekend in Odessa.
The Jacks took the first lead of the night only 5:16 into the first period. Eric Huss intercepted a pass and punched it down the ice for a breakaway in the hands of Blake Bride. Bride raced his way to the net where he fired one past Topeka’s Sam Metcalf for the 1-0 lead.
Topeka got one back from former Jackalope Lucas Herrmann to tie the game at 1-1, but another breakaway out of the media timeout resulted in the Jacks second lead of the night. Ricky Carballo and Petr Miko broke through with one defender to beat. Carballo spun and fed a centering feed where Miko collected and snapped one past Metcalf to regain control before Topeka’s Nigel Nelson got redemption to tie the game on a power play.
Odessa regained the lead one more time in the second and persistence paid off for the Jackalopes. Bride stuck to Jeremy Gabriele’s back where he pick-pocketed the puck and stuffed one past Mecalf for his second of the night, and his team-leading 19th goal of the season.
The RoadRunners finished off the night on top however as Lucas Herrmann netted his second of the contest before Alex Camarre made a big save, but Mason Vukonich found the open backdoor for the game-winning goal.
Camarre made 35 saves for the Jackalopes, while Metcalf stopped 38 of his own in the RoadRunners victory.
