Saturday Scores: Wings fly to 1st place with sweep

Hunter Wendt and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs went a perfect 8-0 on their recent roadtrip, which included a sweep this weekend of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.

Aberdeen 6 @ MN Magicians 5 (OT) - Colton Fletcher scored the game winning goal in overtime and lifter the Aberdeen Wings to a 6-5 win over the Minnesota Magicians. John Sladic, Nathan Burke and Zach Noble all had a goal and an assist. Johnathan Bendorf and Dalton Weigel also scored for the Wings. Matt. Vernon got the win in net as he made 22 saves. Bram Scheerer scored twice, Charlie Weiand scored and had an assist. John Keranen and Ethan DeStefani also scored for the Magicians.

Fairbanks 4 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1 - Connor Chilton’s goal and assist led the Fairbanks Ice Dogs to a weekend sweep of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. Tanner Schachle, Hunter Wendt and Jax Murray all found the back of the net for the Ice Dogs. Josh Benson picked up his second win of the weekend has he turned aside 31 shots. Adrian Danchenko scored the lone goal for the Knights and Christian Stoever made 27 saves.

Kenai River 3 @ Johnstown 4 - David Schmidling’s goal with just 40 seconds remaining capped off the Tomahawks’ third period comeback as they defeat the Brown Bears 4-3. Johnstown trailed 3-1 halfway through the final period before erupting for three goals. Pavel Kharin, Carson Briere and Ben Schmidling scored as well for the Tomahawks. Kade Phipps stopped 31 shots for the win in net. Gil Garcia, Filip Karlsson and Michael Spethmann scored for Kenai River while Gavin Enright made 31 saves in the loss.

MN Wilderness 1 @ Coulee Region 2 - The Coulee Region Chill finished off their sweep of the Wilderness with a 2-1 victory on Saturday night. Jackson Decker scored in the first and Kevin Bryant scored the eventual game winner for the Chill. Emil Zetterquist was outstanding as he made 44 saves to pick up the win between the pipes. Josh Fricks scored the only goal for the Wilderness while Ryan Fanti made 29 saves.

Janesville 3 @ Springfield 2 - Garrett Nieto made 42 saves and secured the weekend sweep for the Janesville Jets as they take care of Springfield 3-2. Brenden MacLaren, Jordan Steinmetz and Simon Sagissor all tallied for Janesville. Spencer DenBeste and Brandon Puricelli scored for the Jr. Blues. Evan Fear took the loss despite making 38 saves.

Minot 2 @ Austin 5 - Travis Kothenbeutel picked up three points to lead the Austin Bruins to a 5-2 victory over the Minot Minotauros. Xander Lamppa, Alex Mella, Riley Doyon, and Evan Cholak all found the back of the net for the Bruins and Alex Schilling stopped 27 shots. Miroslav Mucha and Fritz Belisle scored for Minot. Jack Robbel made 28 saves in the loss.

Brookings 0 @ Bismarck 7 - It was all Bismarck on Saturday night, Cooper Haar led the Bobcats with four points, one goal and three assists. Lukas Millen netted a pair of goals while Jacob Marti had a goal and an assist. Michael Mahan, Jake Olson and Adam Stacho all scored as well for the Bobcats. Ryan Ullan picked up his first shutout of the season by making 23 saves.

Northeast 3 @ Philadelphia 4 (OT) - Carson Moniz’s second goal of the night was the overtime winner for the Philadelphia Rebels as they knocked off the Northeast Generals 4-3. Eric Olson scored and had an assist in the victory while Kolby Vegara also lit the lamp for the Rebels. Eli Billing got the win in goal as he made 24 saves. Sviatoslov Kuchynski scored twice and had an assist for the Generals. Louis Boudon also scored for Northeast while David Fessenden had 25 saves.

Odessa 0 @ Topeka 3 - Sam Metcalf’s 38 save performance highlighted a 3-0 win for the Topeka RoadRunners. Nick Schultze had a goal and an assist while Mason Vukonich and Jakub Urbanek scored as well for Topeka. Alex Camarre stopped 23 of 26 shots and took the loss in net for Odessa.

Corpus Christi 1 @ Lone Star 5 - Jon Russell’s hat trick led the Lone Star Brahmas to a bounce back win over the Corpus Christi IceRays. Connor Stuart and Connor Pooley also scored for Lone Star in the win. Harrison Feeney only had to stop 15 shots in order to pick up his fourth win of the season. Rylee St. Onge scored the only goal for the IceRays.
