Saturday Scores: IceRays, Mudbugs complete South road sweeps

James Durham posted his 4th shutout of the season in a 5-0 win on Saturday night.

Corpus Christi 3 @ Lone Star 1 - Rylee St. Onge could not be stopped as he scored all three Corpus Christi goals to pick up his first hat trick of the season. November forward of the month Larry Jungwirth notched an assist on all three goals and Matt Acciaoli accounted for two assists as well. Austin O’Rourke netted the only Lone Star goal with the assists going to Michael Montambault and Jared Domin. Harrison Feeney made 20 saves in a losing effort.

Shreveport 5 @ Amarillo 0 - Kieran Durgan’s hat trick led the way for the Mudbugs as they easily took down the Amarillo Bulls by a score of 5-0. Cole Quisenberry netted his ninth of the season and Ryan Burnett also scored and had an assist. James Durham was a brick wall as he did not let any of the 34 Amarillo shots past him. It’s his fourth shutout of the season, which ties his for the league lead. Jason Grande had 15 saves for the Bulls in the loss.

Odessa 7 @ Topeka 1 - Big nights from Matt Brown and Ricky Carballo led the way for the Odessa offense as they each scored two goals and had a helper in a rout of the RoadRunners. Evan Somoza scored and had two assists, Zach Heintz had a goal and an assists, and Petr Miko also scored in the big win for Odessa. Brett Epp was superb in goal as he allowed just one goal on 30 attempts. Hugh Quinn was the only RoadRunner to find the back of the net, it was fourth goal of the season.

Fairbanks 8 @ MN Magicians 3 - The Ice Dogs finished off a sweep of the Magicians in convincing fashion as they dominate Minnesota 8-3. Sam Ruffin scored a hat trick and added an assist. Jax Murray had one goal and three assists while Tanner Schachle found the back of the net once and added two helpers. Erkka Vanska, John Stampohar and Daniel Haider also scored for Fairbanks. Logan Neaton had an easy night as he only 10 saves for the victory. Calvin Dybicz netted two goals and Brendan Skarda had the other.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 0 @ Johnstown 2 - Kade Phipps denied all 25 shots the Knights threw his way as the Tomahawks blanked the Knights 2-0. Ben Schmidling and Donovan Ott each scored their seventh goal of the season, Joe Kile picked up an assist. David Tomeo stopped 21 of 23 Tomahawk shots.

Kenai River 4 @ Coulee Region 3 - The Brown Bears were able to salvage a split of the weekend as they knock off the Chill by a score of 4-3. Gabriel Wahl, Connor Scahill and Zach Krajnik each had a goal and an assist. Sacha Guillemain also scored for Kenai River in the win. Artur Pavliukov was terrific in the crease, he turned aside 46 Coulee shots. Collin Price scored twice for the Chill, Tyler Ebner added a goal as well. Emil Zetterquist made 37 in the loss.

Springfield 4 @ Janesville 1 - The Jr. Blues moved into sole possession of third place in the Midwest Division as they topped Janesville 4-1. Casey Fitzjerrells lit the lamp and had an assist. Patrick Smith, NIkita Kozyrev and Giovanni Carabelli also found twine for the Jr. Blues. Evan Fear was nearly perfect as he mad 39 saves on 40 shots. Carter Ekberg scored the lone goal for the Jets and Garrett Nieto stopped 35 shots.

Brookings 2 @ Austin 5 - The Austin Bruins retained sole possession of first place in the Central Division as they beat Brookings 5-2. Evan Cholak scored a pair of goals, Dan Petrick scored one goal and one assist. Dante Zapata and Jaden Shields also scored for the Bruins in the win. Travis Kothenbeutel and Sviataslau Kuchynski had four and three assists respectively. November’s goalie of the month Alex Schilling made 20 saves in the victory. Connor Koviak and Chase Brand scored for the Blizzard.

Aberdeen 1 @ MN Wilderness 4 - The Wilderness rode cruised to a victory after a big opening period against the Aberdeen Wings. Ben Ward and Kosta Likourezos each had a goal and an assist. Eric Gotz and Ashton Altmann scored as well for the Wilderness. Ryan Fanti denied 16 of 17 Aberdeen shots. Johnathan Bendorf scored the only goal for the Wings and Gabe Vinal made 19 saves in the loss.

Minot 3 @ Bismarck 4 (SO) - Adam Stacho was the only player to score in the shootout and that gave the Bobcats a 4-3 victory over the Minotauros. Lukas Millen, Patrick O’Connor and Grant Johnson all scored for Bismarck in regulation. John Roberts got his fourth win as he made 37 saves. For Minot, Grant Loven netted a pair of goals while Austin Koss scored as well. Alex Adams and Miroslav Mucha each had two assists. Jack Robbel was stuck with the loss despite stopped 22 shots.
