Springfield forward DenBeste makes NCAA DI commitment

August 17, 2017
The Springfield Jr. Blues, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are proud to announce that forward Spencer DenBeste has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Lake Superior State University in the WCHA.

DenBeste, a native of Marquette, Michigan, is the 18th NCAA commit from the 2016-17 Springfield Jr. Blues team. In 12 games with Springfield last season, he totaled 3 goals and 5 assists.

Prior to joining Springfield, DenBeste (6’0/180) played two seasons of midget hockey for the Soo Indians. He said familiarity played a big part when deciding where to play college hockey.

“Playing in this town for the Soo (Indians) over the past two seasons, really got me accustom to the area. The campus is great, as well as the coaching staff. I don’t think there was a better fit for me than at Lake Superior State.”

Joining Springfield as a roster expansion player at the end of the 2016-17 season, DenBeste, 18, felt that his time in Springfield went very well. “It was great. Even though I only played in 11 or 12 games, the coaches and players made me feel like I was there all season long. It was my first taste of junior hockey and it really helped accelerate the process of getting myself to the next level.”
