Saturday Scores: Jets win Midwest with sweep

Bismarck forward Zach Kennedy had a big weekend to help the Bobcats stay in the Central Division playoff hunt with a sweep in Austin.

Springfield 1 @ Janesville 4 – Four was Janesville’s magic number this weekend, as they swept Springfield in back-to-back contests by scoring four goals in each game. The win secured the Midwest Division regular season title for the Jets, who have now won five straight. The Jets saw goals from Chris Dodero (2), Adam Roeder and Jakov Novak. Spender DenBeste netted his first goal of the season for Springfield’s lone tally. Janesville’s Jacob Barczewski took the win in net with an 18-save performance. Springfield’s Jordan Greenfield-Flemon made 35 saves in the loss.  Boxscore

Bismarck 5 @ Austin 1 – Five straight second period goals set the tone for the Bobcats’ 5-1 win over Austin on Saturday. Bismarck completed a weekend sweep with goals that were scored by Chase Hartje, Tristan Ashbrook, Matej Murin, Zach Kennedy, and Matthew Barry. The Bruins made their way onto the score sheet with a third period goal from Evan Cholak. Bismarck’s Severi Isokangas made 27 stops in the Bobcats’ victory.  Boxscore

Coulee Region 6 @ Kenai River 2 – Five unanswered goals to finish the game gave the Coulee Region Chill a weekend sweep over Kenai River to close out the night. The Chill’s six goals came from six different scorers, who were Joey Sofo, Steven Quagliata, Caleb Schroer, Issac Theisen, Bailey Martin and Justin Kendall. Christopher Lipe and David Kaplan were credited with Kenai River’s two goals. Coulee Region’s Brad Arvanitis took the win in net after 37 saves. Robbie Goor took the loss for the Brown Bears despite 36 saves. Boxscore

MN Magicians 1 @ Fairbanks 2 – The Fairbanks Ice Dogs held on for a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Magicians on Saturday to close out their weekend sweep. Bauer Neudecker and Samuel Ruffin each scored for the Ice Dogs in the victory. Mitchel Slattery put the Magicians on the board in the final minutes of the third period. In net, Fairbanks’ Erik Gordon took the win after 34 saves, while the Magicians’ Ivan Prosvetov took the loss after 32 saves. Boxscore

Johnstown 2 @ New Jersey 1 – Concluding their second straight win on the road, the Johsntown Tomahawks finished off the New Jersey Titans with a 2-1 win on Saturday night. The Tomahawks saw scoring from Nick Bruce and Mitchell Hale to seal the win. New Jersey’s Gordie Helmuth put the Titans on the scoresheet in the third period. In net, Drew Hotte made 36 stops in Johnstown’s win. New Jersey’s Brandon Perrone made 19 saves in the loss.  Boxscore

Corpus Christi 2 @ Wichita Falls 1 – A third period rally by Corpus Christi earned the Ice Rays a 2-1 win in Wichita Falls to close out the weekend. Matt Hanewall started the scoring for the Wildcats in the first period, which was answered by Corpus Christi’s Mason Krueger and Brendan Miller. Tomas Vomacka made 36 save in net for the Ice Rays’ victory, while Wichita Falls’ Jared Dempsey stopped 35 shots in the loss.  Boxscore

Shreveport 1 @ Amarillo 2 – In the final minutes of the third period, Amarillo stepped up to take a 2-1 win over Shreveport on Saturday. Amarillo’s two goals came courtesy of Brendan Walkom and Colin Price. Croix Evingson scored Shreveport’s lone goal. Nikita Babintsev made 30 saves in the Bulls’ win, while Dylan Lubbesmeyer made 22 stops in the loss for the Mudbugs. Boxscore

Aberdeen 7 @ MN Wilderness 1 – Six straight goals by the Aberdeen Wings led to their 7-1 victory at the Wilderness on Saturday. The Wings saw scoring from Tyler Bossert, Logan Jenuwine, Gage Mackie, Carson Dimoff (2), Andy Carroll, and Colton Fletcher. Minnesota’s Luke Dow put the Wilderness on the board with his late third period goal. In net, Forbes Ploszaj made 34 saves for the Wings’ win. Boxscore

Odessa 1 @ Lone Star 3 – A total of 285 penalty minutes settled to a 3-1 win for the Brahmas at home on Saturday, as the split the weekend at home against Odessa. All scoring came in the second period, where Hunter Stanley, Austin O’Rourke and David Marabella each found the net for Lone Star. Odessa’s Ludwig Stenlund scored for the Jackalopes at the end of the second period. The Brahmas’ Max Prawdzik made 14 saves to earn Lone Star’s win at home.  Boxscore

Brookings 3 @ Minot 2 – An upset on the road resulted in a 3-2 Brookings’ victory at Minot on Saturday night. Brookings saw three goals in the win, which were scored by Paul Cotter, Connor Koviak and Doug Larson. Minot’s two tallies came courtesy of Zack Bross and Austin Dollimer. In net, Josh Boyko took the win after 33 saves for Brookings. Minot’s Lucas Murry took the loss after 18 stops.  Boxscore

Northeast 0 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1 – A single goal earned the Knights a shutout win over Northeast on Saturday. Matt Kidney’s first period tally held through the entirety of the contest, giving the Knights their victory. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s Grant Valentine made 29 perfect saves in his third shutout of the season.  Boxscore
