Friday Finals: Minotauros claim Central's first playoff berth
Joey Sofo had a four-point night as Coulee Region exploded for 10 goals in a win over Kenai River.
Brookings 1 @ Minot 4 – Four goals for Minot gave the Minotauros a 4-1 win at home over Brookings on Friday. The four goals for Minot came courtesy of Reid Stefanson (2), Zack Bross, and Alex Adams. Chase Gamelin scored Brookings’ lone tally. Austin Park took the win in net for Minot with 31 saves, while Josh Boyko was given the loss for Brookings after 28 saves. Boxscore
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3 @ Aston 2 (SO) – A four-round shootout was necessary to settle a winner between the Knights and Rebels on Friday night. In regulation, Aston saw goals from Evgeny Yakovlev and Dom Garcia. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s two regulation goals came from Mike Gelatt and Curtis Carlson. With no score in overtime, the Knights would go on to win in a shootout, with Paul Maust and Adrian Danchenko finding the back of the net. Carter Woolley netted a first round shootout goal for Aston. Coulee Region 10 @ Kenai River 1 – A double-digit effort by the Coulee Region Chill earned the team a 10-1 victory at Kenai River on Friday. The Brown Bears opened the scoring with an Evan Butcher goal. The Chill would go on to score ten unanswered goals, which came from Justin Kendall (2), Joey Sofo (2), Taylor Trapp, Isaac Theisen (2), Bailey Martin, Caleb Schroer, and Kevin Dineen. Johnstown 6 @ New Jersey 5 (SO) – There were a galore of goals scored in the Friday night matchup between the Johnstown Tomahawks and New Jersey Titans. Johnstown saw regulation tallies from Dalton Hunter, Alex Singley, Mitchell Hale, Joshua Biasillo and Evan Somoza. New Jersey put up goals in regulation from Hunter Alden, Dylan Healey, Jordan Kaplan, Gordie Helmuth, and Ryan Wheeler. Joshua Norman and Adam Pilewicz found the net during the shootout for Johnstown to secure the win. The Titans’ Jordan Kaplan scored during the first round of the shootout. Springfield 3 @ Janesville 4 – A last-minute goal by Janesville earned the Jets a 4-3 victory over Springfield on Friday night. The Jets saw goals from Adam Roeder, Ben Schmidling, David Schmidling, and Chris Dodero. Springfield’s three tallies came from Fabio Hollenstein, Chase Mickelson, and Joseph Sardina. Corpus Christi 3 @ Wichita Falls 4 – The Wichita Falls Wildcats held on for a 4-3 win over the Corpus Christi Ice Rays on Friday night. The Wildcats scored four goals, which came from Matt Hanewall, Ryan Orgek, Nick Rosa, and Ilya Skvortsov. The Wilderness’ two tallies came courtesy of Alexander Esbjors and Luke Dow. Keenan Spillum scored Aberdeen’s lone goal. Trevor Micucci took the win in net for the Wilderness after 34 saves. Odessa 4 @ Lone Star 3 (OT) – Odessa’s overtime hero, Ludwig Stenlund, earned the Jackalopes a win on the road at Lone Star on Friday. Odessa saw a total of four goals through the night, which were scored by Zach Heintz, Chase Thudium, Rune Kirby, and the overtime winner by Ludwig Stenlund. MN Magicians 3 @ Fairbanks 4 – A third period comeback for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs turned into a 4-3 win at home against the Magicians on Friday night. The Magicians started the night with three straight goals, which came from Travis Brown, Dmytro Kobylyanskyi, and Andrew Kangas.
