Brahmas win streak reaches 12 with sweep in Topeka

January 29, 2017

Hunter Stanley scored twice in a 3-1 win on Sunday.

Lone Star 3 @ Topeka 1 - The Lone Star Brahmas winning streak reached 12 straight games with a 3-1 win on Sunday in Topeka. The RoadRunners jumped out to an early lead when Max Harper sent one well wide of the near post that Will Schlagenhauf picked up off the end boards. Schlagenhauf turned to send the puck out front, but his centering attempt went of the skate of Troy York and behind Max Prawdzik at 5:26 of the first.

In the 2nd period Lone Star dug deeper and with 11:04 to go, Jordan Wishman gave the puck to Jack Zielenski just outside the RoadRunners’ blueline and carried it back into the zone down the far wall hit Hunter Stanley in stride at the top of the near circle with a cross ice pass. The California native had a clear path to the front and went to the backhand getting Ryan Snowden to bite on the far post then pulled it back to the forehand to put it over the right pad.

Exactly 20 seconds later, Troy York and Brenden Rons engaged in a brief puck battle along the far haldwall with York sending the puck to Carson Kelley at the top of the rightwing circle. Kelley carried it into the high slot before sending it back against the grain to Stanley in front. The pass was a bit behind Stanley but he kicked it to his blade and put it five hole on Snowden to give Lone Star the 2-1 lead. With time winding down in the period David Cyr controlled the puck at the near halfwall with Justin Addamo pressuring him. Cyr tried to send the puck across ice and out of the zone, but Anton Rubtsov knocked it out of midair and turned toward the goal with only clear ice between himself and Snowden. Rubtsov stickhandled a couple of times to get Snowden moving then tucked it between the pads for his first NAHL goal since joining the Brahmas on January 20.

Prawdzik had to make just 12 saves in the win, while Snowden made 29 saves in the loss. With the win the Brahmas win streak now stands at an even dozen which is the longest streak in the NAHL this season and they went the entire month of January without a loss.
