Friday Finals: Wildcats win 3rd straight with OT win

Evan Fear made 36 saves to lead the Jr. Blues to a 4-2 road win in Fairbanks on Friday.

Amarillo 2 @ Wichita Falls 3 – Aleksi Poikola had the overtime-winning goal and an assist as the Wichita Falls Wildcats beat the Amarillo Bulls, 3-2 to win their 3rd straight game. The Wildcats struck first in the opening period on a goal from Steven Tillie. The lead increased to 2-0 early in the 2nd period with a goal from CJ Regula.  Amarillo stormed back to tie the game at 2-2 with goals from Jeff Solow in the 2nd period and Eric Cooley in the 3rd period.  It took just :15 seconds for Poikola to net the OT-winner. Jared Dempsey made 24 saves in the win, while Nikita Babintsev made 43 saves in the loss. Boxscore 

Aston 3 @ Johnstown 2 – The Aston Rebels spoiled the home opener of the Johnstown Tomahawks as they widened their lead in the East Division with a 3-2 win. The Rebels took a 1-0 lead with a 1st period goal from Aaron Maguyon. Johnstown tied the game in the 2nd period as Josh Biasillo lit the lamp just :16 seconds in, but four minutes later, the Rebels took back the lead for good as Gianluca Esteves scored his 7th goal of the season. Jensen Zerban scored his first goal of the season midway through the 3rd period to increase the Rebels lead to 3-1. Mitchell Hale added a late goal for the Tomahawks to make the final, 3-2. Mareks Mitens made 19 saves in the win, while Drew Hotte made 22 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Springfield 4 @ Fairbanks 2 – Evan Fear made 36 saves to lead the Jr. Blues to a 4-2 road win in Fairbanks as the Ice Dogs lost their 5th straight game. Fairbanks led 1-0 after a 1st period goal from Samuel Ruffin. Springfield responded with two goals in the 2nd period from Braden Brown and Zach Tyson. The Ice Dogs tied the game at 2-2 before the period was done on a goal from Robert Blueger. In the 3rd period, Brown netted the game-winner with his second goal of the game and Mat Long also scored. Ice Dogs goalie CJ Boothe made 22 saves in the loss. Boxscore 

Northeast 4 @ New Jersey 5 – Almost all the action was in the 3rd period as the Titans held off a determined Generals team for a 5-4 win. Maxim Andreev had two goals and Greg Malafronte had a three point night for the Titans, while Justin Jallen scored twice in the Generals loss. The Titans got a 1st period goal from Andreev and four goals in the 3rd period including another from Andreev and others from Malafronte, Nick Boyagian and Tyler Antonucci. The Generals got a goal in the 2nd period from Jallen and 3rd period goals from Colin Bilek, Evan Somoza and another from Jallen. Harrison Feeney made 16 saves in the win, while Gabe Vinal made 29 saves in the loss. Boxscore

MN Magicians 7 @ Coulee Region Chill 3 – A Midwest Division matchup on Friday night between the Magicians and Chill resulted in a road win for Minnesota. The Magicians tallied seven goals, with scoring from Will Hammer (2), Cameron Buhl, Jarrett Lee, Davis Kirkendall, Pavel Tkachkov, and Mitchel Slattery. Coulee Region put up three goals, coming from Joey Sofo (2) and Scott Corbett. Ivan Prosvetov took the win in net for the Magicians with 39 saves, while Todd Scott was given the loss for Coulee Region with 30 saves.  Boxscore

Aberdeen 2 @ Brookings 4 – Brookings secured a 4-2 win at home over Central Division foe Aberdeen on Friday. Brookings got two goals in the 1st period from Cade Borchardt and Brenden Stanko and two more goals in the 3rd period to secure the win from Derek Hammer and Chase Brand. The Wings got goals from Tystan Isenhour in the 1st period and Gage Mackie in the 2nd period. Josh Boyko got the win in goal, making 22 saves and Arttu Kulmala took the loss making 22 saves.  Boxscore

Shreveport 4 @ Odessa 3 – Erik Zohovs had four points and defenseman Croix Evingson scored 2:54 into overtime as the Mudbugs beat the Jackalopes, 4-3. Odessa had three, one-goal leads, but each time they scored, Shreveport had an answer. The Jacks got a 1st period goal from Zach Zech, a 2nd period goal from Brandon Krumpschmid and a 3rd period goal from Nick Klishko. The Mudbugs got a 1st period goal from Gueorgui Feduolov, a 2nd period goal from Zohovs and a 3rd period goal from Cameron Cook. Dylan Lubbesmeyer made 34 saves in the win, while Jonny Hogue made 36 saves in the loss.Boxscore

Corpus Christi 1 @ Lone Star 3 – Alec Calvaruso made 27 saves to lead the Brahmas to a 3-1 win over the visiting IceRays. Lone Star took a 2-1 lead in the 1st period with goals from Austin O’Rourke and Carson Kelley. The lone IceRays goal of the game came off the stick of Cole Gammer. After a scoreless 2nd period, the Brahmas secured the win with their third goal of the game late in the 3rd period from Drake Glover. Tomas Vomacka made 27 saves in the loss. Boxscore

MN Wilderness 4 @ Minot 6 – An efficient offense helped the Minot Minotauros to their first win in their new Pepsi Rink as six different players scored in a 6-4 win. It was the Wilderness who took an early 2-0 lead with two 1st period goals from Tim Nicksic. The Minotauros responded with the next three goals in the 2nd period from Reid Stefanson, Derek Frentz and Tyler Jeanson. The Wilderness got a late goal from Louis Roehl to tie the game at 3-3. In the 3rd period, Minot scored three more times from Jack Murphy, Zack Bross and Nolan Sawchuk. Nicksic scored for the Wilderness to complete his hat-trick. Austin Park made 25 saves in the win and Luke Kania made 20 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Janesville 6 @ Kenai River 2 – Michael Maloney and Cole Paskus had big nights, each scoring twice as the Jets beat the Brown Bears, 6-2. Paskus and Cullen Munson scored in the 1st period, Maloney scored twice in the 2nd period and Paskus added his second goal and in the 3rd period Joseph Abate lit the lamp. The Brown Bears got goals from Tyler Rock and Luke Radetic. Jacob Barczewski made 28 saves in the win, while Bailey Seagraves took the loss with 19 saves. Boxscore
