New Jersey goalie Wright makes NCAA DI commitment

March 14, 2016
The New Jersey Titans, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that goaltender Spencer Wright has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Michigan State University in the Big 10.

Wright, 18, is in his first season of junior hockey in the NAHL. The native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, has appeared in 28 games so far this season and has posted a 15-11-1 record, which includes a 2.53 goals against average and a 92.0% save percentage, which ranks in the top 10 in the NAHL.

Wright (6’2/170) began the season splitting time with fellow Titans goalie Jack Berry, who is also an NCAA Division I commit to the University of Wisconsin.  Berry was injured in late November, which put the majority of the work on Wright’s shoulders. Wright responded with a tremendous stretch of hockey, which saw him earn NAHL East Division Star of the Week honors twice during the month of February and once as a runner-up in late November.

Wright made his commitment known on Twitter stating, “Very grateful for the opportunity I've been given. Thrilled to announce my commitment to play hockey at Michigan State University #GoGreen.”

Prior to coming to the NAHL and playing for the Titans, Wright played high school hockey in the state of Michigan for Detroit Catholic Central.

New Jersey Titans head coach Rich McKenna said, “the New Jersey Titans are very excited for Spencer and his commitment to Michigan State. Spencer has been an anchor in net for us since late November and is deserving of this commitment. We would not be in the position we are in if wasn't for him.”

McKenna continued, “He has established himself as a goalie in this league and has now been rewarded. For a Michigan kid to come to New Jersey and earn a commitment from his dream school tells a story about his character and perseverance throughout the season.”
