Brown's big night leads Knights to win over Rebels
December 20, 2015
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 5 @ Aston 2 – It was quite the night for Knights forward Braden Brown who recorded four goals on Sunday afternoon to lead the Knights to a 5-2 road win in Aston. The four goals by Brown was a career high for the forward from Plano, TX, and the most any NAHL player has scored in a single game this season.
Things looked good for the Rebels early as they took a 1-0 lead with a 1st period goal from Ryan Cusin. Just over a minute later, the Knights would respond with a power play goal from Brown, his first of the night, as the 1st period ended up deadlocked at 1-1.
In the 2nd period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton jumped ahead 2-1 on a nice effort by Brown who danced around the outside wing and drove in from a sharp angle, lifting a shot over Rebels goalie Darion Hanson for the first lead of the night for the Knights. 10 minutes later, Jacob Hamacher scored on the power play to make it 3-1 for the Knights at the end of two periods.
In the 3rd period, Aston cut the lead to 3-2 halfway through the frame with a goal from Michael Merulla, but then Brown took over with two goals to put the game on ice. Both came on the power play as Brown completed his hat-trick by getting a pass at the hash mark and jetting into the slot, sending a shot past Hanson to make it 4-2. Brown then collected a loose puck in the low slot for his fourth goal of the night to make the final 5-2.
Andrey Svistunov made 33 saves in the win for the Knights, while Hanson took the loss in goal for the Rebels, making 25 saves.
