Friday Finals: Blizzard clip Wings, 4-1

Bismarck goalie Hunter Shepard continued his recent good play with a 2-1 win in Minnesota against the Wilderness.

MN Magicians 3 @ Coulee Region 4 (OT) – Shane Kuzmeski scored 3:27 into overtime as the Chill came from two goals down to top the Magicians on Friday, 4-3. The Magicians jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Kevin Dineen and Connor Bucsis. The Chill responded back in the 2nd period with a power play from Brady Ferner. The Magicians went back up by two goals on a power play goal from Johnny Panvica. The Chill came back with two goals later in the 3rd period on strikes from Jackosn Charlesworth and Caleb Schroer to set up Kuzmeski’s OT-winner. Hunter Vorva made 35 saves in the win, while Drew Hotte made 40 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Lone Star 3 @ Amarillo 2 – The Brahmas continued their season success over the Bulls with a close 3-2 win in Amarillo on Friday. It was the Bulls who jumped ahead first as Keenan Sabatini scored the opening goal. That was met by two straight goals from the Brahmas later in the period as Oskar Andren and Tomas Brejcha scored to give Lone Star a 2-1 lead. The Bulls tied the game early in the 2nd period on a goal from Michael Forman. The game-winning goal came midway through the 3rd period from Lone Star forward Peter Kessel. Conor O’Brien made 19 saves in the win, while Jacob Weatherly made 38 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Topeka 2 @ Springfield 1 (OT) – Tyler Johnson made 35 saves to lead the Topeka RoadRunners to a 2-1 win in Springfield in overtime on Friday. After a scoreless 1st period, the RoadRunners scored the game’s opening goal midway through the 2nd period as Cam Strong lit the lamp. Springfield would tie the game at 1-1 early in the 3rd period on a goal from Brennan Blaszczak. The overtime-winner came 2:53 into the extra frame as Yu Hikosaka scored an unassisted goal. Niko Della Maggorie made 26 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Aberdeen 1 @ Brookings 4 – The Blizzard got 19 saves from Eric Hancock as they beat the Wings, 4-1. The Blizzard were helped by a strong start as goals from Griff Jeszka and Zach Mitchell put them up 2-0. The Wings goal their lone goal midway through the 3rd period from Jake Leitner, but that was answered three minutes later with a goal from Nick Cardelli. Garrett Elmore added an empty-net goal for insurance. Wings goalie Gavin Paczosa made 33 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1 @ New Jersey 5 – Three 1st period goals were plenty for the 1st place Titans as they handled the Knights on Friday by a 5-1 score. The Titans scored three goals in an eight-minute time span in the opening period with tallies from Victor Ostling, Jesse Farabee and Athony Cusanelli. Bruno Birzitis scored a power play goal in the 2nd period to make it 4-0. The Knights got on the board with their lone goal late in the 3rd period, which came from Jacob Hamacher. Cusanelli added his second of the game two minutes later to make the final 5-1. Jack Berry was solid in the win, making 35 saves. Grant Valentine made 34 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Johnstown 3 @ Fairbanks 8 – The Ice Dogs exploded for eight goals, including four goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods to defeat Johnstown, 8-3. Eight different Ice Dogs players scored in the win. After a scoreless 1st period, Fairbanks took a 4-1 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Cayden Cahill, Ryner Gorowsky, Todd Burgess and Evan Somoza. Fairbanks added four more goals in the 3rd period from Clay Cross, Logan Coomes, Tyler Tomberlin and Marc Sullivan. Johnstown goals came from Cameron Smith in the 2nd period and Kelly O’Brien and Casey Linkenheld in the 3rd period. Gavin Nieto made 26 saves in the win. Boxscore

Aston 5 @ Kenai River 3 – The Rebels handed the Brown Bears their 12th straight loss as goalie Darion Hanson made 39 saves in a 5-3 win. Aston took a 1-0 lead with a 1st period goal from Colton McMenamin. The teams would then trade goals in the 2nd period as Joey Sardina and Evan Butcher scored for the Brown Bears to answer a goal from Dean Balsamo. Aston briefly took a 3-2 lead on a goal from Jerry Miettunen. Kenai River would again answer to tie the game at 3-3 as Gunnar Goodmanson scored. Aston got two late goals in the 3rd period from Evgeny Yakovlev and Ryan Cusin to win 5-3. Nick Nast made 29 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Austin 2 @ Minot 1 – The Bruins cut into the Minotauros division lead thanks to a 2-1 win in Minot on Friday thanks to 23 saves from Kris Carlson. Austin jumped ahead 1-0 on a 1st period goal from Justin Misiak. Gilbert Gabor made it 2-0 for Austin in the 2nd period with a shorthanded goal. Minot would get on the board midway through the 2nd period on their lone tally from Zack Bross. Minot goalie Jon Flakne also played well in the loss making 33 saves. Boxscore

Bismarck 2 @ MN Wilderness 1 – In a defensive game, Bismarck goalie Hunter Shepard continued his hot play with 22 saves in a 2-1 Bobcats win on Friday. The Bobcats opened the scoring midway through the 1st period on a goal from Jared Pike. The Wilderness would answer early in the 2nd period on a goal from Jack Forbort. The game-winner would come with 6:40 remaining in the 3rd period from Bismarck forward Nick Alexander, who scored his 5th goal in as many games. Wilderness goalie Luke Kania made 16 saves in the loss. Boxscore

Corpus Christi 1 @ Wichita Falls 3 – Julian Sime made 15 saves and lost his shutout bid with just over a minute to go as the Wildcats continued their success over the IceRays with a 3-1 home win on Friday. The Wildcats opened the scoring in 1st period with a goal from Ryan Burnett. The lead increased to 3-0 in the 2nd period with goals from Nikita Litviak and Austin Beaulieu. The lone IceRays goal came with 1:05 remaining in regulation as Regen Cavanagh scored the lone goal for Corpus Christi. Dryden McKay made 18 saves in the loss. Boxscore
