UAA gets commitment from Thunder's Docken
The Albert Lea Thunder have announced that defenseman Derek Docken has committed to the University of Alaska-Anchorage (WCHA).
Through 37 games this season, the 19-year-old Northfield, Minn., native has two goals for 13 points. He’s also a plus-17, which is tied for eighth-best in the NAHL.
“WCHA - that’s pretty incredible,” Docken told the Albert Lea Tribune. “Never thought I’d be playing in the WCHA, that’s for sure. It’s such a far-fetched dream.”
Docken is the second player from this year’s Thunder team to commit to a Division I program, joining goaltender Joe Rogers (University of Notre Dame).
“You couldn’t ask for a better result for a better person,” Thunder coach Chuck Linkenheld told the Tribune. “I think it’s fitting. He’s the kind of kid you want your kids to grow up like.”
